I know I may regret asking this question but curiosity has got the better of me.

Are there any benefits to upgrading the fuses in my equipment mains plugs?

I can buy a pack of the fuses currently fitted in my plugs for pennies so thinking a better quality fuse MAY make a difference.

I will now stand back and wait for the responses and no matter what your response thanks for your input.

Unless you put underrated ones in.

They don't do anything so don't worry about it, buy some CD's or LP's instead :^

Agreed on both counts, I assumed he meant replacing like for like, only "higher quality" :D

Irrespective of the obvious irritation this question poses to you, it is not against the AUP :nup:
Don't assume, it makes an ass out of you & you, I'm sure I read the AUP and it mentioned electrical modifications being against the AUP

You will not post any recommendation to modify any part of an electrical installation or the mains power supply of equipment or anything connected to it, including fuses, plugs and cabling.

FFS, he wasn't suggesting "modifying" anything. I believe he stated "upgrading" the fuses.

Either way read post #4 - from a mod..........

Try doing something that will make a difference.

Have a good look at how your speakers are positioned, then move your listening position a bit (easier than moving the speakers) move forward a foot, then back a foot, if you notice an improvement move your speakers accordingly. Try the speakers closer/further from the back wall, concentrate on what you experience.

All of this will have far greater impact than poncing about with fuses or cables which will have no affect!

Do you honestly think Hi-Fi companies and dealers would try to sell fuses for £30+ if they didn't make a difference. :nup:

Just save up and buy the most expensive one you can afford (or take out a pay day loan) and enjoy the benefits. :^

You could try a wooden fuse if the sound of your hifi is irritating. A bit of peace and quiet might be just what the doctor ordered. :^

I'd start by getting rid of the PMC speakers. I've hated every pair I've ever heard. They have always sounded particularly bad when partnered with snoozical gear like Arcam, and Meridian is of the same ilk...

Customer Comment

"Fitted them at the weekend and can't believe the difference! Its almost as if I've upgraded the whole power cables once again. The detail is a lot clearer and there is more punch to the bass, despite only listening at low volumes.

Spent last night just playing old cds just to hear the difference!"

Mr N Sheepwash, Kent

"I received a box of the new fuses this morning - thanks great service as usual. I've just replaced three fuses in three Signature Powerkords.

The result is unbelievably good for such an inexpensive upgrade. In fact this has to be the most cost effective upgrade ever.

Well done."

Are all "audiophile" fuses IEC or UL certified?
No idea, I've never bought one. There again, all amps sold in the UK are not CE marked, so where does that take us?
