One of my Technics 1210 M3Ds went *bang!* when I tried to switch it on the other day... producing really quite a loud noise through my speakers (which seem to have survived unscathed). Now nothing happens when I try to turn it on...

I swapped the fuse, but that made no difference. Any ideas what it could be? I'm wondering if it's the PSU... and if so what that would cost to fix / replace?

Grateful for any advice.

Highly likely to be PSU related. Have a look for exploded capacitors on the PCB, or caps with their contents spilling out. Caps often expire with a loud pop or bang.

Surprised to hear it was audible through the loudspeakers since there is no direct link between audio output cabling and the drive electronics, other than perhaps ground so perhaps it spiked noise to ground.

Thanks Rob - if it is the PSU what ballpark ££ am I looking at for repair / replacement? (I have NO technical know how and wondering if it's worth getting it fixed)

Cheers

If its just caps and no other damage, the parts cost is likely <£10 + whatever the repairer charges.
