Which way to jump. Moon 230d CD player or Audiolab 6000CDT plus Musical Fidelity MX-DAC. Latter pair I already own but have an offer of a Moon at a very good price £600 which is probably not far off what I could get for the other two if sold. I do not stream so a DAC is not an essential.

The 230d will be at least 11 years old and perhaps as many as 16. It's very likely that this will need a new transport in the not too distant. Moon product support in the UK is pretty good.

Personally, I'd stick with your transport and look at a different DAC, if you have an itch.

Always have an itch, I need to stop coming on here. Might try another dac just to see if it's the crucial item in the chain or if the transport is.

Having heard a few different transports at varying prices, I suspect you need to spend quite a lot to conclusively beat the Audiolab. We use one at shows.

We also use the RME DAC, which is very versatile. Ours is an earlier version with AKM chip. More recent ones use an ESS chip which may sound different (there was a (chip pan?) fire at the AKM factory, so AKM chips are off the menu for a bit).

Iam very tempted by the glowing reviews of the gustard R26. Most folks are hailing it as the best under the 3-3.5k price point.

Happy with transport more the DAC to change as an experiment.

One thing that does surprise me on this unit, maybe it is just me, is only 1 coax and 1 optical input
Now I only want a dac for cd playback so one coax input is ok but what if I wanted to stream and prefer coax. Means every time I change have to fuff with cables.

Many streamers are optimised for USB out, and some only have USB out. In my experience, it's not something to sweat over.

I am not bothered re streaming just want best from CDT, at a reasonable price. I find my MF MX-DAC is " nice sounding " but I think I need to try at least one other DAC as a comparison.
