Can anyone give me advice on making my own headphone extension cable?

I bought a Oyaide female 3.5mm socket by mistake (was looking for an adapter) so have decided to use it to make my own cable.

What options have I got for a decent raw cable? Does it have to be specific headphone cable or can I use interconnect cable? Prepared to pay for something decent.

Any other advice also welcome.

Cheers

Have a Google on the Mogami starquad microphone cable it's a high quality industry standard cable, small and reasonably flexible perfect for headphone use I've used it on several extensions and replacement headphone cables myself. Belden also offer a similar cable. No snake oil just a high quality product.

Might be a daft question but the diagram of the Mogami cable has four internal wires.

I have attached a picture of the Oyaide connector. How would I connect it up to the four wires? It looks like it has soldering points for three wires.

It can run a 4 way balanced XLR but for 3 way jack just connect 2 of the wires to ground/return.

As above four conductors one left channel one right channel and use a pair for the ground return (you would use separate L&R channel grounds if balanced XLR but with a trs jack they share the ground) just make sure you use the same pair for grounds both ends.

If you decide to order the cable from Canford
They do also sell Neutrik connectors. The Cardas one is very nice but also very expensive +vat and shipping. Note the soft rubber end on the Neutrik which has a small hole through which you feed the cables and keeps the wireing end of the jack nice and tidy it also provides some strain relief. Its a nice product have a Google these are goto products for much of the industry and diyers for good reason.

Neutrik is a high quality product also and probably costs less than just the shipping from hificollective.

Thanks again. I have ordered some of the Mogami cable and the Neutrik jack. Not from Canford though, as they have a minimum order value of £35 and there was nothing else I needed.
