Any good tips on How or What to use to clean a Cambridge Audio(gun metal Grey) case with. just took delivery of my 2nd hand D100(£12.50 off FleaBay) and will be testing in a moment..might end up just taking the lid off and fine/fine sandpaper job and respray..? Bit of toast with the Missus and off to test with some Floyd and Mr Nice CD...

Picked up a Yamaha Natural Sound TX-350 Tuner for £12.71 yesterday off the FleaBay...Yes this will be an Ultra Budget Hi-Fi...

Just a DUAL TT to track down(cheap!!) next...

eBay message to the effect this shop no longer exists
If that is discount devices I bought a switch from them under another name but their main details are still discount devices. The switch was not as described and the a hole updated the listing and claimed I had bought the wrong item. Now about to return it and hope to get my money back, if not I have their address in south London and will pay them a visit.

Resources for fidly bits

http://www.maplins.co.uk - The first port of call for many. I find them expensive and lacking in their range. They do have a few items of use though so always worth a look.

http://www.cpc.co.uk - Now part of farnell. I use them because they're down the road and I can go. Range is reasonable and price is good. Downsides are that the site is a pain to use and some items can only be bought in high quantities.

http://www.rswww.com]http://www.com]http://www.rswww.com[/url] - The daddy of them all. By far the biggest range with just about something for everyone, they even sell decent capacitors. Delivery charges are reasonable and they deliver quick style. Downsides; they only accept credit cards over the net and you may need to order high quantities.

http://www.rapidelectronics.co.uk - Similar to CPC in many ways. Not really for the audiophile but a good range and a good price none the less. Need to be dealing with them for six months before they'll post to an address that isnt the cardholders.

http://www.cricklewoodelectronics.com - Not bad, some good products, especially when looking for caps at a decent price, always worth a look.

http://www.hificollective.co.uk - High-end products, they aint cheap but they stock some exclusive products for those with decent back accounts.

http://www.audionote.co.uk - Still popular and have some decent products, worth a look.

http://www.wires.co.uk - If you want wire check here. A large range of, er, wires. Silver, gold, silver and gold, copper, silver with ptfe etc etc, always check here if you want wire.

http://www.iplacoustics.co.uk - Mainly speaker kits and components but Ivan does have a good range of caps, resistors and wire.

http://www.net-audio.co.uk - Specialise in CD clocks and DACs but they do have some other components to sell. Good for those looking to mod their older Quads. Always worth ringing though, Ive heard some good deals can be had.

http://www.audiocom-uk.com - Another CD specialist. They also stock some nice caps and resistors. Their own products are highly rated.

http://www.tube-shop.com - If like me, you like your valves, this is a good place to have a look. A good range of the most popular valves including some nos (new old stock) tubes.

http://www.watfordvalves.com - Dont think theres a tube they dont stock. Very popular with the guitar player and seem to sell only quality stuff.

http://www.ebay.co.uk - No seriously, lots of stuff to be had. If your looking for tubes etc always check out the international sellers (espec. the USA) they are much cheaper and Ive never had a problem importing.

Will add more later.
Hey man, that's an incredibly useful list....one or two places I had never heard of....especially the wire supplier. Thank you.

On the other hand, sadly, amongst all the good stuff, I did notice on the Audiocom site, reference to Akiko Audio tuning chips. I checked out Akiko's website https://www.akikoaudio.com/en/akiko-audio/tuning-chips/510-akiko-audio-equipment-tuning-chip-3d-english and saw that basically they are self adhesive foil stickers. Peter Belt made an income from selling stuff like this. Mind games, no more. Does ANYONE actually believe in stuff like this in 2017? Would love to hear from you if so.

Also, Audiocom advertise Akiko 'Tuning Sticks' for attaching to cables and sockets. Described on Akiko's website as 'black box' and 'the Tuning Stick's contents are stabilized with black resin'. Am I suspicious of this kind of thing? No. I know a con when I see it. This surely means that inside the carbon fibre finished tubing, there will be very little, and to prevent vibration and to prevent you seeing how little you are getting for your money, they have concealed the contents in black casting resin. What a shame that, amongst all the incredible stuff that is developed in this great hobby of ours, there is still a 'mumbo jumbo' community willing to suck the silver from our wallets. Maybe we should start a thread called 'Mumbo Jumbo'.

Another method of DIY is to look at a benchmarked system created by someone who one may know. I have a dear friend who is one of the top genius's on this planet, he has about 40 years of innovative system building, for example, one of the more simpler 'conversions',  he had a pair of just 'ordinary'  Naim SBL's, created  passive crossovers for them, and rather than paying about £1000 for advertised companies to do this work he has surpassed this quality at about 40% of the cost. Result is.. bringing the sound up to a level that would be hard to beat with speakers costing thousands of pounds. And the cost.. speakers (20 years old as new condition) £400 plus £400 on crossovers.   He also has a Black Gate mentality to the benefit of all he creates for!   Therefore through my 40 years experience and advising DIYers to try to look at systems built by guys like my mate does, for inspiration, then an awful lot of lolly and disappointments may be avoided! These guys, who usually work from home (sometimes on the kitchen table lol!)  love to impart knowledge they have built up over the years to aspiring amp, speaker or whatever builders.
