Had a little child visiting the other day and he managed to poke his sweet little fingers into one of my surround sound speakers ( catle harlech) dust caps.

Anybody had any experience in pulling a similar dent out ?

The chap who had my old AN-es before me used a pin. I've used sellotape in the past for a minor dint, worked well

Suck it...seriously, just purse your lips up and suck for England. If you cant get your lips round it, I found some old vaccuum Cleaner hose with a round attachment on the end works, not on the vacuum cleaner, just imagine its a...best not imagine that...just get your lips round it and suck.

As Bob says - unless the diaphragm has been punctured by the child the best way is to use your own mouth as he describes.

It really does work remarkably well with all but the most 'stoved in' of tweeters/dust caps.

Put a dab of freshly opened Superglue on the tip of a toothpick (not too pointed), hold it steady to the centre of depression and after it has set gently pull. To remove, just twist the toothpick gently. If the cap is painted, you may lose a little circle of paint which you may want to touch up.

Thanks guys,

Tried sucking, but it just felt dirty, plus the fact I reckon you chaps must have had more practice or really powerful lung capacity. It was a really deep one, but my attempts were pathetic. So gave the old sellotape a try and VOILA a little ping and no ding.

So Thanks again for the replies. I just needed a confidence boost.

Oh yeah his mum and dad also managed to reconfigure my blu ray player into non working mode as well, because they wanted to entertain the lad.Hmmm

Fine tips above - may you pursue suitably the one that works.

AND ESPECIALLY - try to contact a specialist who knows about highly-esteemed Castle Harlechs/is 'currently responsible for the marque' ...

You shall achieve meaningful outcome.

Friends I know with kids get the warning talk before they are allowed to bring them round. It goes something like this: 'My speakers are made by a company no longer in existence. If they are damaged it is quite unlikely they can be repaired. They cost £1600 ten years ago. You are responsible for any damage'. It seems to put them off bringing the little buggers round, especially when I tell them how much the exposed valves cost on my amps...!

Hey trev hows it going..??

Just think if you let them in the Hi-Fi room (if you have one)..could be some serious damage etc..

Kids visiting us hear Archie barking behind the door when they arrive and rapidly take off for the hills, so I have no problems, if they do make inside I have a roll of tank tape to immobilise them.

I used a vacuum cleaner, and slowly moved the hose towards the dust cap until it popped back out.

Reading this has made me realise I shall have to do something about my speakers as more often than not, the babies in the family are brought around when I'm not at the house.

Big yellow kevlar cones are like open bags of sugar to small children...

Luckily my 10 year old step daughter doesn't do anything stupid with the hifi :)

Get some blutack & get it warm by rolling it in your hands then forma blob & gently touch it to the centre of the dent Then pull it away & keep doing it to remove all the damage bit by bit this worked for me :)

Don't push it on just let it touch thats all.
Or the same thing with some Cellotape/masking tape wrapped round your finger. Sticky side out preferably! Keep changing to fresh bits.

Cut the top part off a plastic pop bottle to give the same diameter as dust cap (grind on concrete if not quite cut flat) put the screwcap end into the hoover pipe and place the funnel end over the dust cap and switch the hoover on. The little funnel can be sellotaped to hoover pipe if more suction required and if the dustcap is plastic or doped then a little heat from a hot air gun before hoovering will also help if suction alone doesnt work (this can also work on tweeters but be very very careful with heat as you will end up with a flat or nondescript shaped diaphragm very very quickly so only do this on otherwise no hoper tweeter)

I've used the blutack , sellotape , and moving a vacuum near methods and they all worked, here's another tip , if you have paper dust caps , they often are creased if you get em back into shape , I have found a light streaming with a boiling kettle takes out the creases , obviously plastic wont work with steaming.
