Ok, so getting the correct position of your speakers can be a pita. So after much tooing and froing i have found an easier way of getting the position absolutely spot on in a much shorter time. So firstly get the position about right by measuring and then turn on the system but set the volume very low. If there is an imbalance this shows up much easier at a very low volume. When you are happy, swap around the speaker wires at the back of the amp, so the left is right and right is left. Again listen at the same low volume for any imbalance and if you are happy again, replace the speaker wires to the correct side and you are sorted…I thank you! Happy listening.

I've not tried this but my concern with using low level for setup is that you'd mask/miss bass issues, which are arguably affected more by position than anything else. Not quite sure what the logic of using lower volume is though, so I may be missing a benefit to be balanced against this?

Generally I go with no spikes for the first set up. A lot easier to slide things around than lift and drop.
I agree with MartinC, bass issues only become apparent at higher volume as your ears are much less sensitive to lower frequencies at lower spls than the midrange. I generally go for good balance and minimise any bass anomalies first then move onto toe in (and for some speakers rake back) to dial in the mids and treble.

Have you heard Sam Ryder at high volume?

We all have our methods - just one thing it is noted that a lot of amps are off balance at very low volumes or so I am told (Google it).

My position is compromised due to the positioning of doors (closer to the wall than I would like) so there is always a compromise for many. Another factor for me to not fart about too much is the bloody things weigh over 75kg a piece.

I do use a laser pointer to ensure that each speaker is firing to each ear (slight toe in and the tweeter is adjustable for the axis of fire)
