Dessert or the reason why the countries fucked? ;-)
A dessert, and it's lovely.

Particularly when it's washed down with a drop of Scotch :^

That's where you're going wrong, a "drop"of Scotch :clout: That's your dessert :pint:
Well at least we can afford to imbibe Scotch in England :p , I couldn't imagine what it must be like having Buckfast for pudding :nup:

HiFi Trade?
  1. No
It is the most vile pile of vomit enducing sweet sickly pus on the planet. Whoever thought egg whites and sugar should be the basis of anything needs a full frontal lobotomy.

Whilst I do enjoy Eton Mess, Cranachan is a most superior dessert and is designed to taken with a dram, measures of whisky comes in two sizes, a dram and a glass, how big the aforementioned drinks are entirely up to the pourer, a glass being the larger of the two. Buckie is always drunk by the bottle.

Wow, I'm astonished. Not because you don't like it, loads don't of course but the fact you said egg whites and sugar don't work!

Of course they work mate, scientifically and culinary. If you don't like it fair play but you can't say they don't work. You are one of if not my most respected members of the food forum but on this occasion......errrr your wrong.

Perhaps your slightly struggling with rational decisions at the moment given your impending defeats to the Lions and of course our far superior cricket team?

If so you should take it out on the sport forum and give good old meringue's a break.

He he he.

Seriously though, I was raised in a family (British parents in Oz) that loved all things meringue. Of course, every time you went out on a family visit, Pavlova was the desert of choice. I just couldn't bear it. It's always been sweet nothing to me. Eton Mess is just something to try and make meringue taste of something. And fails.

Give me a steamed pud (of any type), bread and butter pud, a creme brulee or any other "classic" desert (with the exception of summer pudding) and I am a happy bunny. But meringue is my food hell.

Actually I'm not the greatest lover of meringue, however Lemon Meringue Pie, made by Mrs Mac, is just sublime. The sweet meringue and the tarty lemon, just compliment each other so well

We've been in NZ for a year.

And I suspect we may have had (the NZ originated, of course ;-) ) Pavlova only once, maybe twice. I'll see if we can change that!

I'm dribbling and drooling at the same time

Although some cunts will say it's the combination of age and alcohol :p
