Ive become very interested in events opal speakers and this forum seems to have quite a few owners,Can anyone tell me if they think i would be better upgrading any of my current equipment or going the opal route,I like a sound that is clean and dynamic that has a clear midrange and a little bit of sparkle and plenty of speed. My current set up tends to thump in the bass rather than hit,and i think some detail is being lost,

you will notice a huge difference with the opal's. Whether you like the difference, that's something only you can decide.

I've not bought and sold stuff for as long as 30 years but before I bought my Opals I was on quite a spiral of an upgrade journey. The Opals managed to allow me to jump off the upgrade merry go round and in the process replaced some fairly hefty gear (Krell amp plus Thiel speakers).

I've never looked back and have no intentions of feeding that insane addiction again.

I was ready to do this and so the Opals helped me to break the cycle - the only way these will be the system you can settle down with is mostly down to your own readiness. If you are then definitely worth an audition. The great thing about them is they make a complete mockery of much more expensive passive plus amplifier combos's - once you realise how much you have to spend to better the Opals you realise it really just isn't worth it (unless you have a lot of money and are comfortable with your irrational addiction).

Wouldn't like to wrongly set your expectations as I'm in a rather small minority in my opinion of the Opal's so your experience may well be different. They came, they saw but they didn't conquer.

All speakers interact with the room they are placed in.

Ergo, each persos home experience will be different from every other opinion.

They are potentially great sounding speakers (when I last heard them) so try them and see. You'll not have any problem moving them on if the room can't be made to accommodate them anyway.

The Events have limited room correction I believe so that will help ameliorate any major room issues.

Active monitors can be a bit of a shock to a listener who is used to more traditional sounding system, and indeed vice versa.

Some really enjoy the clarity and evenness others are shocked by it, you will have to try them and decide for yourself.

Keith.

A lot of people are in this hobby for 'box swapping'. There is little opportunity for that with Actives. They are also very neutral and unforgiving on dodgy material which is why they are used in a professional environment. The lack of a comfortable sound and the chance to continually muck around is probably why people get rid of them.
