I'm running KDSM into poweramp and non-exakt speakers.

Assume I buy Exaktbox Sub and connect it to KDSM and use analogue output to non-Exakt active subwoofer.

I have come across two contradicting messages in Linn Docs on this arrangement.

The ExaktBox Sub Manual suggests that this is not goin to work:

You cannot mix the Exaktbox-Sub with the left/right speakers being fed from the Linn DS/DSM analogue sockets.
Konfig will allow you to set this up but no audio will fed to the ExaktBox-sub

But the FAQ Installation says that:

If you only have speakers connected via analogue connections to the Linn DS/DS
and try and also use the Exaktbox sub Config will only allow you to setup Space Optimisation+ on the Exaktbox Sub.
You will not be able to use Space Optimisation on the analogue outputs with an Exaktbox and or Exakt speaker connected.

which means that mixing is possible but I will be able to set up Space Optimization for Subwoofer only and not for the main speakers -- which is fine with me.

Can someone help to resolve this conundrum ?

Isn't there a timing problem between analogue and Exakt processed. signals? The Exakt signal will be delayed. Or...?  o_O

I am also at looking to do something similar and in the process of researching this. I would like to avoid having to purchase and Exakbox Sub if I can.

You can activate dual analogue mode in Konfig - so if you are running fully exakt like I am, you can also provide an analogue output of the same signal.

However Linn tell me there is ~45ms delay between analog outputs and Exakt link (due to digital processing needs taking a bit of time).

Sounds like you are not running Exakt for your main speakers, but running via analogue out. I would assume that if you purchased and exaktbox sub to feed your sub-woofer, you can expect a delay on the sub of 45 ms. The solution I am looking at for me is the other way around where my stereo main speaker would be behind my sub, if I feed the sub via the analogue outs. I can get around this with mini-dsp HD, which can delay for up to 80ms, but what I would really appreciate is a raw digital output from my DSM - I read somewhere the SPDif may be configurable to output (instead of input) but not seeing how to do this on my DSM? (klimax renew DSM/1 with exakt out).

For your issue (if I understand your setup), since you are not actually using the exakt feature of your DSM and going straight to power amp - can you not just connect to your sub-woofer via the "high level input" of your sub (some have them) - these take speaker level signal directly from your power amp.

There's an article here describing this...

https://www.aperionaudio.com/blogs/aperion-audio-blog/how-to-get-the-most-out-of-your-subwoofer

If your receiver does not have a subwoofer output, you will need a subwoofer with inputs (usually called “high-level inputs” or “speaker level inputs.”)

  1. Run speaker wires from your receiver (or your front left & right speakers) to the subwoofer’s high-level inputs. Don’t worry about speaker wire quality (the subwoofer’s amplifier is a resistive load meaning that, unlike speakers, all frequencies will be treated the same.) These high level inputs are not a lower quality input but they will not allow you to use the really cool crossover feature that’s built into most home theater receivers.
  2. Since speaker wire is typically unshielded, it’s best to steer clear of household wiring. If it does need to encounter household wiring, have it cross at a 90-degree angle. If your subwoofer emits a buzz or a hum, this may be the culprit.
  3. When using more than one subwoofer, its input wires can originate from the receiver, front left & right speakers or the inputs of the first subwoofer. Do not use the “high level outputs” to connect to other subwoofers. We recommend that these high level outputs not be used.

Timster, if you can place your sub 45 feet behind the main speakers all will be good ;)

Be careful with the mini-DSP solution.  It is indeed capable of applying delay but may not report it too accurately.  Briain (very occasional visitor to this forum) has been a long time user of a mini-DSP with his subwoofer.  In personal correspondence has stated that he had to measure the delay to get it correctly set.  SPDif may also introduce up to 1 ms of variable delay depending on how the mini-dsp pulls the clock.  If you can track him down I am sure he will be happy to share his experience.

Thanks Philbo - aware of Briain and his exploits appreciate the reminder :)  I will try and reach out to him.
