I recently decided to finally get my 7yr old Benz Wood SL serviced & retipped so I fired off an email on the 30th of November asking about how to go about it, lead times & approx cost.

Next day the 1st of December I recieved a reply from them from Julia their Client Liaison person thanking me for my enquiry with an attached folder explaining the various costings dpending on what they found on inspection of the cart and a lead time of 3/4 weeks from reciept of the cart. I confirmed the same day that I wished to go ahead and recieved a further reply explaining how to send it.

I decide to wait untill after the weekend to send my Cart on the Monday 5th of December for next day delivery (it then took 3 days🙄) they recieved my cart on the 8th Dec So 7 days after we agreed to have the work done. I recieved a full inspection report and a recommendation of work they thought it required which would be £310 inc next day insured return post.

I agreed to have the work done & expected to wait at least 3/4 weeks as agreed. BUT! To my suprise I recieved an email from Julia yesterday 13th Dec to say it was completed and ready to be returned after payment of the amount agreed which I paid via BT.

I got an email today thanking me for my prompt payment and explained that they would post my cart on Friday for delivery on Monday but due to postal strikes this could be delayed. Julia asked as it was also Christmas week next week would I prefer to wait until early New Year for them to send it which I thought was a sensible thing to do given the situation with the postal system right now.

To say am totally delighted with the service provided by ES and in particular Julia is an understatement. From my first contact to completion of the work 14 days is amazing considering there was a gap of 7 days with nothing happening. If the post was working normally I would have got it back tomorrow but as it is it will be a couple of weeks which is my choice.

I have heard wammers say that ES are quite slow to respond & get things turned around and I just wonder if Julia The client liaison lady is a new edition to their team but I'm impressed and would recommend them if your thinking of getting a cart refurbed.

Steve.

Yeah it was'nt till I got my new AT Art-9xi & the Technics TT so being able to swap carts easier that I realised how dull it was🤔Tbh I inspected it & could barely see any actual stylus at all but it did play😲

Certainly mate I'll post a review up once I get it mounted and run in👍

I'll be very interested to hear how it compares to the Art-9xi with both being pretty much new🤔

I have a Wood SM on order (I like the 0.8mV). I was silly and sold the Micro Glider but it did fund something else to be fair.
To me, it was the most balanced MC I’ve owned. I had a Gullwing on loan and as good as it was, I didn’t feel the rest of my kit did it justice.
I want to stop at the SM and this is why it’s important for me to know your results for the future bud.

I have used them since 1979 .. I managed to knock the stylus off my Decca within a few months of getting it back and decided to use Expert Stylus to restore it. The fabulous Mr Hodgson dealt with me on the phone (every time i have used them which is three times now). We also agreed to meet up at a London Show in 1979 for a coffee and a chat. He is still involved (and he must be really getting on now) and his son I think is the main man now.

What you know is when you use them, the quality of the work will be second to none.

You did not tell us what they recommended for yours .. has it been fitted with a Paratrace (which was designed by Expert Stylus) or an Extended Fine Line? and did they change the cantilever (great things have been said of their reworking the Denon 103 with a saphire cantilever and Paratrace stylus.

Fabulous firm and it should be noted their main business is in diamond Surgical tools and other specialist diamond cutting items I am led to believe.

Final note, if you are a 78 collector they make special stylus to deal with all forms of these records.

I have had several cartridges done by ESc and they have been consistently excellent, both in service and workmanship.
I have done the px a couple of times with ESc but not had work done so pleasantly suprised I have to say.

There has been a real deteriation of standards of service since the Covid lockdowns because companies had an excuse to not be as good as they could be. That time has passed now but poor slack uncaring service remains sadly😟😤

It is so nice to be treated like a valued customer it gives me a warm feeling inside.

They did a service including cleaning and retipped the Boron/Sapphire cantilever & retipping with the Paratrace profile diamond and auditioning.
costing £310 which is a bargain imo.👌🏻

I have an ESCO paratrace and ally cantilever fitted to a Cadenza Bronze I bought from Martin Pickles out of our classifieds.
Its installed in a modified Micro Seki arm on a Technics SP10.
It made aan appearance @bigrod's bake off and recently took a trip down the M27 and A31 @ Speedracer. It met with approval at both gigs and we like it.

My experience with them was also very good a couple of months ago they replaced a damaged boron canterlever and fitted a paratrace diamond tip on a damaged Jico SAS stylus for me.

Steve.

Fantastic customer service as you say - If the quality of the work done on your cart is of the same order then you will be quid's in. Be very interested to hear all about it once you get it back.

Good call on waiting till the new year - There is no way I would want an expensive thing like a cart buried somewhere under the 'Parcel Mountains' that are building up in the various mail sorting offices up and down the country.

I looking forward to getting it back but like you say having it laying around for several days getting squashed is not a good idea although it is in it's original wooden box so quite robust.

I'll do a proper assesment once it's been played in for a few hours and review it on here👍
