Certainly not any more dynamics anyway

Such a potentially fantastic album but compressed to crap.

I'm really disappointed by the SQ of this album (Vinyl and CD) every time I hear it; does anybody know of a decent pressing ?

Ta in unwarranted anticipation.

Modern music = mainly crap.

The small percentage which isn't crap = mainly badly recorded/mixed/mastered.

Thems are poopy odds. :(

That would depend on the artist / group I listen to as much new and modern music as i can and can and assure you lots of artists take great care and pride over there production / studio quality many are now opting not to use any digital in the recording process !

not sure about the foo fighters mike but i have generally found with lots of bands that end up getting signed to the larger labels they regulary end up spending far too much time and money in post production which more than often ends up sucking the life out of the recoding / music !

The last album was recorded purely analogue in Grohl's garage.....he is learning

Wasting Light is the seventh studio album by American rock band Foo Fighters. It was released on April 12, 2011 on RCA Records. As frontman Dave Grohl wanted a record that would capture the essence of the band's earlier work and lack the artificiality of digital recording, the group recorded in Grohl's garage in Encino, California with only analog equipment.

This arrived yesterday.

Recorded straight to Analogue tape, heavy vinyl, 2 x 45 RPM Album, result = gobsmackingly amazing :)

Other end of the audio spectrum to "There is Nothing Left to Lose". On first playing, maybe the songs aren't quite as strong but the SQ and the resulting vibe of the album are awesome.

Thoroughly recommend it.

Cheers for the nod Scott.

Did you get the 1st press or reissue? I've got a uk original, but have heard the reissues were a complete mess. I'll check mine over the next few days and get back to you..

Not sure tbh mojo but it certainly doesn't sound messed up.

I'll get the catalogue number and let you know.

Mines 2011, so a re-issue.

If this is a complete mess then I would love to hear the original. I'll have to have a look for it.

Wasting Light was only released in 2011 and wasn't part of the RCA reissues programme so you're still with the original mastering. Unlikely you've got a first pressing but I wouldn't worry...

Recording of Wasting Light in all its analogue glory is nicely captured in the Foos documentary Back and Forth...then you should watch Sound City, all about how Dave rescued the legendary Neve console from Sound City studios, rebuilt it at home and recorded an album with the likes of Paul McCartney, QOTSA, Lee Ving & Stevie Nicks. Cracking stuff!

Thanks for the info Richard, the album certainly does sound good.

I'll have to have a watch of Back and Forth, sounds interesting.

Apologies for the delay. Finally got round to playing "There Is...". My copy is MPO vinyl (Eu press) and, quite frankly, I wouldn't recommend it. Stacked Actors seems to be almost clipping (mastered too hot?) and the whole thing sounds as if it's been mastered from digital files (not always bad but, in this case, it is) . Did a bit of research on the reissues and they're supposedly better than the Orig so you've probably got the best there is for this particular LP :-(

As for the reissues- apparently they're more of a mixed bag in terms of SQ- it would seem the S/T is also pretty poor (but that's probably to do with the less than stellar recording processes involved) but others such as 'The Colour..' get good reviews...
