The amplifier is up for sale as it is now surplus to requirements, having bought some monoblock tube amps.

I bought this around 4 months ago as I wanted to try a bridged mono setup with my other SE-A900 power amp. The set-up worked very well but the spaghetti junction of cables didn't go down very well with my wife!! Anyhow, the new tube monoblocks force a sale as I really don't have room for all my gear.

The amp has work faultlessly and is in decent condition however, there are a few age related scratches and marks etc.

The VU meter bulbs are renowned for blowing on these amp but the previous owner had already replaced the VU bulbs with modern LED's, which have a rather attractive blue light, so there are no worries about the bulbs going anytime soon.

The specs are as follows:

Power output: 70 watts per channel into 8Ω (stereo)

Frequency response: 5Hz to 70kHz

Total harmonic distortion: 0.01%

Damping factor: 70

Input sensitivity: 1V

Signal to noise ratio: 110dB

Speaker load impedance: 4Ω to 16Ω

Dimensions: 430 x 136 x 344mm

Weight: 9.8kg

Lots of reviews, videos and information on the tinterweb.

I believe these amps generally sell for around £400 - £500 with the matching pre-amp, I paid £300 but am only asking £250. Cash on collection from Manchester and demo welcome.

I have boxes (not original) and packing material, so I am happy to ship at the buyers expense.

Hi Peter,

Technics describe these amplifiers as Class AA.

From what I can tell, they use MOS-FETs in Class A circuitry.

Whatever that means.......

The blue leds look neat, I have one of these as well pretty sure its not old school class A as while mine gets warm its no where near the temperature of the Class A amps I've owned in the past.

The VU meters look great at night there is switch on the back on mine which allows you to turn them on and off and on.

Sound wise I would say they are a pretty neutral and transparent power amp one that is not to fussy about what you put in front as I've used dacs with built in preamps and three different headphone amps all have worked well.

Technics class AA amplifers take a similar approach to quads current dumping amps to minimise crossover distortion in more traditional amplifiers. I don't quite understand all the nuances but it's apparently best explained as a big class b amp to give you drive and power and a small class a amp to give you detail, joined by voodoo I presume.

Great explanation, like it.
