We are just watching "Blue Betty" - In French 37.2 (temperature body...) degrees on mornings with actress Beatrice Dalle...

I know understand why foreigners think - truly or not - we are a bunch obsessed with having good time, drinking, eating, enjoying free time, not working, being irrational and impulsive, flirting, fornicating, even the famous "menage a trois"

Okay, okay...

I admit it, there is not only a story about passion... Beatrice Dalle has also a very cute and welcoming ass..

Though French filmsprofess to be thoughtful and provoking and serious and to some extent this is obviously true but the real reason why people especially men watch them is this. The female lead is generally extremely bunkable and she has no hesitation in removing her clothes at any given opportunity.

French films rock. If you think Amelie is a chick flick, perhaps you should check out some of the "artier" ones, like Delicatessen, three colours series (red, white and blue) etc..but avoid at all cost a movie called Baise Moi (f*ck me) it is shit pr0n masquerading as a decent movie, which it most certainly is not...

Agree about Baise Moi.

My favourite film of all time is Irreversible which is truly shocking but absolutely incredible and has a number of levels to it.

Also, l'haine is fantastic and Man Bites Dog is grim but also interesting.

L'Haine is a quality film, also Man Bites Dog but isn't that Belgian (he says ducking for cover)

I also enjoyed Dobermann, not great but a guilty pleasure and old Monica looking especially sexy. The Pornograhper is also a very good film and even though there are one or two 'real' sex moments really shouldn't be dismissed as a cheap porno movie trying to be art - it's quite good.

The French have made some great films - Rififi, The Wages of Fear, Les diaboliques, Jules et Jim- often copied but rarely, if ever, bettered.

Just seen "36 quai des Orfèvres". It's a cracking film, and a good example of how French films, even those aimed at a popular market, so often take time when telling the story, time to fill in the details, make the characters more complete, and pace the tale in a way which american films seem quite unable to do.

I'm a big fan of French films, I speak it a bit so that helps and I'd go along with all of the above.

Baise Moi is dross.

Irreversible is brilliant. Monica Bellucci deserves huge credit for what she must have gone through.

Rififi is top notch.

A couple of recommendations for you francophiles:

Hidden is down on the list for viewing - big fan of Michael Haneke, especially Funny Games and the Piano Teacher.

Alsoany fan of French films HAS to watch Kieslowski's ThreeColours trilogy - a great film maker and sad loss to cinema.

Shropshire Borders,
I'm afraid I never got on with the 3 Colours thingy - just too slow for me, but it did look gorgeous...

To show how crass I really am, my favourite French films (apart from Le Salaire de la Peur) are Les Visiteurs and Monsieur Hulot's Holiday!

Le Samourai etc were just tedious exercises in style over substance

Haven't seen Funny Games yet but have seen Code Unknown which has Juliette Binoche in and is certainly worth seeing. Piano Teacher is a tough watch though. Isabelle Huppert is never less than intriguing, you kind of wish she'd lighten up now and again though in some of her roles.

Funny Games totally knocked me sideways when I first watched it. Just thought it was just so amazing

"I don't suppose you're into French cinema, Ted? Oh, no Sir.......I wouldn't know much about that"
Sorry, just had to quote it!

Love anything French, me. French birds especially. Last one was a raving nimphomaniac. Best lay ever. Shame she wasan over-possessive nutcase, otherwise i'd have stayed with her

French women are awesome, period. Especially in their 40's, where they(generally speaking)metamorphosise into quite the most attractive beings on the face of the planet (speaking as a 27 year old!). Just something about them that is SO much more sophisticated & sexy than any other race I've encountered.

French actresses even more so. Favourite one isthat edible fuck-bunnyfuck-bunny in Taxi. OMG
