I've just unpacked my Stereo-20, and noticed immediately that its rectifier valve has gone white on top (shouldn't it be silver?). Never seen a valve do that before but I assume i should replace it before connecting up and switching on?

Replace before switching on.

White is indicative of air inside, so vacuum loss.

Watford Valves they say

so it looks like I'll have to wait before putting this one into action. Probably matters not as I'm waiting for some more suitably sized interconnects as well.

Thats a shame as it was a Mullard, some 80 quid gone puff.
