Just starting to get into Hi Res stuff. Only problem is on my main system my DAC can only do 16/44 over usb, so I'm looking for a converter between laptop and DAC.

Current favourite is the V link 192, balanced spdif out will be good as I have an unused balanced input on my DAC.

Any others out there that you can recommend? Must admit the HiFiMe DIY one looks OK for £30!

Cheers...

James.

S/pdif can be on RCA, Toslink ( optically encoded s/pdif) or BNC connectors, AES/SBU is essentially s/pdif with a higher voltage designed primarily for longer cable runs.

What type of digital 'in' does your dac have?

Keith.

HiFi Trade?
  1. Yes
How much would you like to pay? Or perhaps, a more accurate question might be how much you are happy paying?! The Audiophilleo is very good, Sonicweld is excellent (and one of the highest priced solutions), SotM is also excellent, KingRex is a little cheaper but very good with the external PSU.

Dealers registered on the Wam can supply some or all of these, and also the M2Tech kit. I've only heard the Mk1 HiFace, but it was also good, and definitely VFM at it's price point. Yes, others are better, but they cost more.

So probably just a USB to s/pdif converter on an RCA connector.Keith.

Sorry should have said, the V link 192 is the top of my price range.. so ~£150 Wondering if the 192 is worth it over the V link 2 TBH

I had to look to check the price on that one... Up to £200ish, less if possible?

The Kingrex supports 32/192 and is competitively priced. You could buy just the converter and add the battery supply later, if you wished. (For instance. I've no wish to poach business from anyone here! Please check to see what dealers here have to offer.)

If you're diy inclined there's always something like the waveio board which can be usb or external psu powered. All you have to do to get it going it solder a rca plug onto the spdif out plug it in and away you go (there's a driver to install as well).

I'd be interested to know how you get on with the delock converter as I need a solution to connect my O2 Joggler to my AV system and don't want to spend a lot.
