There have been plenty of Hi-Fi fads over the years. Just think of metal dome tweeters in the 1980's when they came out, every speaker had to have them.

Or speaker stands with upwards facing spikes, all stands needed spikes that damaged the speakers.

dat players. My brother and I both bought one as they were slashed in price from £999 to £299 in a Hifi shop in Birmingham. Tapes were really expensive. Because they were Sony, I was only third after a fortnight. My brother gave up and gave his to me, as mine broke again. Then, that one broke. Now I have 2 dat players in the loft, plus 60 dat tapes recorded from CDs that you could buy for £1 each.

:D CD players...
Yeah, they seem to be on the way out. Sainsburys have stopped taken on-line orders for CDs, just downloads now. Whatever they are.
