Bloke in the Vertere room with pony tail, you say?

There's a good chance that was Touraj - owner of Vertere and designer of the turntables on display!
He could well have been based on a vague recollection of a photo of him that I once saw. He reminded me of the owner of Harbeth and Inspire HiFi. Only he has the right product and nothing else matters.

Divore fidelity are a big hit across the pond. There is a local guy in my forum running O/96 with a 150K nagra HD stack. I haven't heard it yet. But he swears it was worth the 10 years of speaker swapping to get there in the end.

Hifi lounge seem to have taken up the devore line.

I didn’t see the Abbey Road guy he was on his own when I spoke with him. Did you hear his room? What did you make of it? I felt it very different from the others. It sounded ‘compressed’ ‘constrained’ a bit 2D rather than the 3D vibrancy of the other t/t rooms.

Had two great days at the show . Met and talked to a lot of the Wammer’s who attended . And also guys that know a lot more than I ever will ..Which in many ways is the most important part for me .
Across the whole show there were probably only 3 or 4 systems I couldn’t live with , the rest I couldn’t afford anyway. But I’m always grateful that companies are willing to showcase their equipment for me to have the pleasure of listening to . Even though they know more than 99% of the punters couldn’t even afford the cabling in some cases.. I always take along my own music especially vinyl and everyone I asked were willing to play it which was nice ..in fact one or two distributors/manufacturers took pictures of the albums for future reference..
When going to such a show I want to hear
“SCALE” ,and that takes head room power and lots of space ….I’ve already got a nice system that plays good toons ,
I want to be blown away with no superlatives diminished.. that’s why I take live recordings of “ big band” music as that’s what I grew up with when my great uncle used to take me to the Drill Hall when he was a session drummer.. ..
one track on the album Kenton 76 called “ send in the clowns “ was absolutely wonderful and on the nail in the Auden room ..you didn’t think there is anymore head room in the trumpet but it went up and up and up ..I couldn’t listen to it everyday,,,,but for a couple of hours it took me back to the Drill Hall at Clay Cross ..
What’s not to like about reliving those moments if only for a short while ..
Just added that album into my playlist... always a pleasure to hear a good recording 😊

Ah thanks ..i was looking at the price list in the photo of the definative room
I think that was the list of what was being used at the show. There was a different list showing the options and prices. I had a demo a few weeks ago of the basic model 7 and will be having one as soon as funds allow.

Just listened to Kenton 76- great listening and lovely to hear the version of "My Funny Valentine", Chet Baker's signature number and probably my favourite of his.

Not the greatest of fidelity considering the price of the turntable package with a variable phono stage which should allow you to dial in a perfect match
But it was an interesting listen non the less ,and we did get to listen to some rare original acetate pressings

There were far better musical systems at the show ,, non which I could afford by the way ,

This album was also well received by demonstrators , it has that lovely “live” aspect to it ..
I took this because it has a fabulous drum solo at the end of side one .and is great to evaluate the timing and immediacy of speakers .
. It’s 45rpm direct to disc on white vinyl

It’s a shame that I didn’t have time to listen to the acetates but I totally agree that there were far better musical systems at the show.

In fact several demonstrators couldn’t believe it’s nearly 50 years old

Gotta have some serious trumpet chops for that chart , also from experience " Time for a Change" on the same album is a bugger to play in 9/8 I used to lose count if I wasn't concentrating 🤣
