Had two great days at the show . Met and talked to a lot of the Wammer’s who attended . And also guys that know a lot more than I ever will ..Which in many ways is the most important part for me .
Across the whole show there were probably only 3 or 4 systems I couldn’t live with , the rest I couldn’t afford anyway. But I’m always grateful that companies are willing to showcase their equipment for me to have the pleasure of listening to . Even though they know more than 99% of the punters couldn’t even afford the cabling in some cases.. I always take along my own music especially vinyl and everyone I asked were willing to play it which was nice ..in fact one or two distributors/manufacturers took pictures of the albums for future reference..
When going to such a show I want to hear
“SCALE” ,and that takes head room power and lots of space ….I’ve already got a nice system that plays good toons ,
I want to be blown away with no superlatives diminished.. that’s why I take live recordings of “ big band” music as that’s what I grew up with when my great uncle used to take me to the Drill Hall when he was a e serious session drummer.. ..
one track on the album Kenton 76 called “ send in the clowns “ was absolutely wonderful and on the nail in the Auden room ..you didn’t think there is anymore head room in the trumpet butlose it went up and up and up ..I couldn’t listen to it everyday,,,,but for a couple of hours it took me back to the Drill Hall at Clay Cross ..
What’s not to like about reliving those moments if only for a short while ..
