How long do you give an album a chance?

It took multiple plays to 'get' Selling England by the Pound, Foxtrot and most of
Gabriel Genesis. Still working on The Lamb..
Looking back and coming from 'And Then There Were Three' - the commercial album
laced with some lovely tunes, it's not surprising that the back catalogue was more challenging and rewarding.
'Those who laugh last laugh longest ' and the music that takes a while to get under the skin
tickles us best.

It depends on the act. If it's a firm favourite, I might spin an album up to three times. If I'm not hooked by then, I probably never will be. If it's a new act (to me), it may well get just a single chance to impress.

Wondering how others go about listening to an album you've never heard before: Do you always listen to it all the way through at least once? Do you listen to the first three tracks and then only continue if you've connected by then?

I don't have an algorithm for this yet but I think maybe I should!

On spotify ... 3 tracks max to decide if I want to give it longer. 0-4 out of 10 I'll stop playing, 5-7 out of ten I'll keep going. 8+ and I'll order the CD!

My quest for 'new to me music' is a daily task (in fact going through a list of albums now) the one I've just rejected - Arab On Radar - The Stolen Singles I gave 15 seconds on track one, then 20 seconds on another random track, off, onto the next one.....if it's thrashy guitar, drums, or screeching into a microphone it goes off.........tbf I've just tried another track from another album of Arab On Radar....gave it 21 seconds...that is 20 too long! Time is limited.....

Am lying. Sometimes I put an artist on all day. If anything piqued my Interest I will give it a proper listen on the evening.

I've got to find one track that pulls me in quickly, then, I'll play the whole album, if I don't like it, try it again the following month, if no attachment ditch it and move on.

Life is too short and I have so much music
I will always play both sides ,, if it don’t grip me it’s filed away with all my other vinyl and maybe it will get a random chance when I swap the 100 albums in the unit downstairs with fresh music from my collection upstairs.
It may never get played again though ..
I have quite a few like that ..
