I'm pretty sure it's answered in the thread title, insufficient resolution in the measuring equipment, makes truely accurate measuring of what we can hear quite a challenge.

Adam, did you see the guy at Tonbridge who had refurbed an US armed forces 19 inch turntable from the 50s. Amazing piece of kit.
