Inline Attenuators/interconnect thingys

Hello,

I was thinking of trying some of these wonderful attenuator things that either fit to your interconnects or are part of them, reason being that I get very little movement of the volume control knob ( :p ) on the amp and it sounds 'loud' even though it's not if you get my drift.

Has anyone tried them, are they worth it, is it nonsense etc etc?

I don't won't to pay £100 for them!

Cheers,

Rob.

I have a pair of -16db Goldenjacks you can have Rob. I found they worked pretty well.

Stealing the Art Thief's thread... :D

I've been perusing the old threads about inline attenuators but not found any info that answers a question of mine.

Valve preamps generate a subtle tube hiss that doesn't intrude during daytime listening. But late at night when everything else is quiet, this hiss becomes apparent. (nb: this hiss doesn't increase or decrease with any changes in the volume level, it stays constant)

If I put attenuators between the preamp and power amp, will they attenuate this tube hiss?

Any wammer has any relevant experience?

Yes, the hiss will be reduced in proportion by the attenuator.

Yippee. So I can buy a pair with confidence. Thanks, one S man. :^

A minor query. An online vendor of these attenuators says in his ad that they attenuate, by dint of this process they also improve signal to noise ratio. Is this claim correct?
