I have been reading John Peels Autobiography (very interesting and a good read by the way) and thought ....I wonder what kit someone like John Peel would use..... He spend most of his waking life listening to music so I was just interested. He must have got through a considerable number of record decks and cd players so.....Does anyone have any idea what he used at home.....also anyone else whos life is music for that matter...

Just interested.

nr St Andrews, Fife,
Not really sure, I would imagine that Beyer-Dynamic DT100 or DT150 headphones got a lot of use in his broadcasting days.

I use one of his quotes for my siggy...nuff said really.

TBH he was a very un-techy sort of person, so I doubt he ever gave it much thought - prolly something fairly pedestrian TBH, it was evidently the music (and his family) he lived for.

Wish I had my prioritiesthat well sorted...

Somebody was trying to tell me that CDs are better than vinyl because they don't have any surface noise. I said, "Listen, mate, *life* has surface noise.

cool.

The only photo I can make anything out from shows a Garrard deck and some big old Spendors (I think) circa 1970 odd.

Perhaps we should email Sheila, she'll think (realise) we are all completely nuts, but I bet she replies.

As a LP12 owner myself, I would love this to be true. For someone who must have playeda lot of singles though, the LP12 would have been a totally impractical turntable.

One of the pics (back cover) does look like an SP10 with a Rega arm. This might be in a home studio given the background. It wouldn't be surprising as the later BBC pics also show SP10's so he'd be very used to them. The SP10 could also have played his78's. Another pic in the book shows him editing one of his shows at home using a big Revox reel to reel. Obviously a man of some taste!

The (BBC?) pic above shows an EMT TT and arm. I'd be very surprised if he did use an LP12 at home given the 45rpm hassle (regardless of sound quality issues)
