I believe 'yes' and 'no', at least as far as Later ..., if that's what you mean, is concerned. The artists do indeed play live in front of the audience. But the whole show is recorded ahead of transmission. I saw KT Tunstall talking about her (now famous) first appearance and she said that she'd basically have got just a couple of chances to perform what was quite a tricky sequencing number. In the event I think she nailed it first time. But the subsequent editing wasn't very sympathetic.

Shite tonight, with the exception of Gary Clark Jnr IMHO
Record it very week, skip through to see if anything interest, usually watch nothing of it fully. Very tired format now - needs a freshen up if it's to continue.

Strat - it is live but recorded a few days in advance. My son is at the Newcastle Arena tonight - seeing the Arctic Monkeys.

I haven't watched it much recently but did tonight for Gary Clark Jnr but thought it crap - yes the format is tired. I'm not sure they are playing proper live - the Arctics I wasn't convinced didn't have some kind of backing track.

It's always tragically shite as far as I can tell from whenever I accidentally catch it and get drawn in to watching the car crash. He plays the archetypal tragic dad trying desperately to convince that he likes 'current' music. Ugh.
