I used to have a pair! Wound up spray painted graffiti style. Sounded fab off a Marantz CD63 and some cheapo amp. One of the best hifi's I ever had for musicality though the mid range was a bit muffled - could have been the amp, could have been the candle wax...

What are people's views on the AP3, ML510 and Mini Monitor- all of which appear on eBay from time to time? I have heard - and like - the ML510 (possibly 310s- didn't find out), but do the others sound fairly similar? I will be using them in a small room, so sealed of front-ported is good. Probably means that the AP3s will be too big, as well.

i've got 2 pairs of AP2s and a pair of AP3s here at the moment- i think i saw the above praise for the AP2s on here and found a pair. Unfortunately, they all seemed to need re-foaming and then i found another pair of AP2s which didn't look as if they needed re-foaming but in fact they did

Hence 2 pairs.

The Ap3s are the same as the '2s except for slightly deeper bass.

Think i prefer Heybrook HB1s , which are mechanicaly very similar but the AP2/3s are good. One pair are a late pair in black ash with biwire terminals but are linked internally and the earlier pair are single wire and have active speaker terminals, which bypasses the internal crossover.

The Ap3s are late and are proper biwire. The Ap3s were £300 and the '2s were £250 and both received good reviews at the time. They use Vifa drive units.

Those Sonatas look a heck of a lot like Mordaunt Short MS15s (of about 15-18 years)

I'm lucky with my AP2's as anyone who has heard mine will testify that my drivers are in perfect condition!

I preferred mine to HB1's, its all about preference at the end of the day. Would like to try some AP3's though.

Thought i'd bump this, just bought my second pair of these, mintage condition, new drivers only 3 years ago!Nice speakers, just replacing my diamonds in my study/pc system! Could do with an amp with loudness, low volume playing is a bit lack in the bass, they do have the "JPW" sound I do like so much though...

Oh and they were a nifty £5 - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=330157586015&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=014
Excellent buy.

That eBay link for the Sonatas - I wish now I hadn't looked at the seller's other items! I'm now watching a few albums.
