I've always wanted to hear their dac, in fact there is one now on eBay but the earlier model, and from what I've read the latest version is the one to go for. MCRU are stockists.

I had the LAB12 DAC for a while (the one before the latest - the SE I think).

Superb, if quirky, DAC with incredible sound quality to my ears. Bettered a couple of much more expensive DAC’s.

Well worth a demo I would suggest if you can get one.

I have recently acquired a used Lab 12 Reference DAC1, the current version of the non oversampling DAC which uses 8 X TDA1542 chips and two 6922 EH output valves. I was previously using a Denafrips Pontus 2 which itself is a great sounding DAC, being very detailed and realistic sounding but the Lab 12 manages to add an extra touch of warmth and even greater realism without giving anything away in terms of detail.
However, the real surprise is the reproduction of percussion, not only bass, brushwork and cymbals but also amazing dynamics and slam. Certainly the best DAC I have heard to date and very worthy of an an audition if you get a chance.
