This may well be a confused older male moment, but I find i prefer the results from a sensor with less Mps and a sharper lens, than an image from the worlds 'sharpest' sensor and a softer lens.

Maybe some vague adjectives in there somewhere hahah, but maybe you get the picture (sry, another bad pun) :)
for example, I prefer images from a Nikon Z6 with Zeiss lens than those from a Z711 with 'softer' Nikon lens.
A terrible example not meant as an exact example, but as a pointer.

In Hi Fi terms what is this? A clinically accurate amp with friendly speakers or t'other way round?

Each to their own, as they say. Just like hi-fi, there is no 'best', only whatever is best for you.

If you're happy, just keep on taking the photos and enjoy them :ROFLMAO:

tbh if we are talking 'high end' so to speak the most important factor for me is ergonomics and the consequent enjoyment of taking photos
I use an sl2 with mainly sigma glass which ticks my boxes , in your terms - big sensor and sharp glass i suppose
Each to his own of course

of course i also have some vintage 'soft' glass that plays very nicely with the sl2 and its big sensor (good for cropping out any vignetting etc., if desired that is

Interesting question. I suppose one needs a really good sensor to make the best of the sharpest lens, so both lens and sensor of commensurate quality for me. In the last analysis, however, it comes down to how we view our pictures. I’m unlikely to ever use a Hasselblad or Sinar again, partly because in those days someone else paid for them, but also because I usually view my pictures on a 55inch OLED TV, which is remarkably forgiving compared to the Retina display I edit on.

This. If the resolution of the lens significantly exceeds the resolution of the sensor, then you aren't getting any advantage for the extra ££ you spent on the glass. There may be other reasons to go for the better glass though - bokeh, for example, or better AF/VR capabilities.
