In Avalon I have found my dreams. This is a loudspeaker that I believe in more than any other. Their products answer all my questions and slot perfectly into my over-riding philosophy on home replay and the dizzying heights it should achieve. For recreating a musical event in a completely natural, time coherent and spatially precise manner, replete with all of its emotional impact, nuance and detail, they are for me the benchmark.

I am extremely proud to announce that after being a deeply satisfied Avalon owner for some time, Lotus are now Avalon dealers. We have the giant slaying IDEA and brand new COMPAS on permanent demonstration. The other magnificant floorstanders in the range, the TRANSCENDANT, TIME, INDRA, ISIS, are also available to demo by appointment either on site or in the comfort of your own home and system.

That's great! We need more Avalon dealers in the UK. So hard to find. Was listening to a pair of old Avalon Avatars a few weeks back. Never have I heard a speaker image as well. Can only imagine how the newer models sound.

Hi Dave, all the prices are on my webiste. The Compas kind of replace the Eidolon vision/diamond (although technically you can still order an eidolon) but do have a slightly different voicing. More dynamic and they go louder and definitely do Rock music but obviously still having all the usual Avalon traits of refinement, balance, eveness, superb dimensionality and imaging.

LOTUS took delivery of a new demo pair of Avalon Indra today. I ordered these in the lovely Walnut Cluster Burl. Not only my favourite finish but ignoring the Time for a second, the Indra are possibly my favourite speaker in the range too.

A significant step on from the Transcendant, crossover technology from the mighty Isis and overall a stunningly holographic sound with one of the most engaging and "see through" midranges I have ever heard in a speaker. "A majestic electrostatic in a box" yet they have focus, resolution, bite and definition that is also totally off the scale.

On demo and home loan @ Lotus, priced from £22,800

Seeing as I've neglected this thread a little since its inception, here are the other models at LOTUS:

Avalon Transcendant.

Still an Avalon so supremely refined and natural but probably the most forward and propulsive of the entire range. They appeal to a wide range of people and systems. Naim guys come here and love them for their suitability to Rock/Pop and their incredible time coherency and generous bass but then more traditional Avalon lovers will still witness the high levels of tetxure, the incredible holography, the neutrality, eveness, high resolution and perfect driver integration that they have come to expect from the brand.

I personally have a soft spot for the Trannies, a very modern speaker but straying well clear of the over clinical sound that many brands seem to be now chasing. They seem to do everything and please everyone. Whether you like the kick in music or the sheer beauty of instruments or if neutrailty and transparency is your big thing ... they will win you over. A Wilson or 802D owner will love their drive and purposefullness but then an Martin Logan or say Quad user will also be astounded by their midrange and top end. A good compact size, easy to place and setup and fairly easy to drive too so happy on the end of a modest transistor amp or simple push pull.

Welcome to the Avalon IDEA

These are the babies in the range at £7900. Don't let the botton rung status put you off though because they are undoubtedly one of the biggest stars of the catalogue and there is something incredibly engaging about these little powerhouses.

The IDEA move things on from the older and more expensive Ascendants considerably; more neutral, more resolution, more out the box, more bass, faster and even better timing. This is a very accurate, fast and uncoloured speaker that produces quite a shockingly expansive and huge sound well beyond the cabinets in all axes and with not a hint of boxiness. The midrange projects out and hooks you in in the most enagaing manner and when I stick a pair of these on in the dem room after a few weeks with say the Diamonds (almost 5 times the price) it's seriously not a come down in any way at all. The IDEA will of course not do what the bigger models do but as a separate entity they just work and are so compelling to listen to. All the usual Avalon strengths apply, beautiful texture, perfect tone, holographic, even, balanced, sophisticated and refined yet still able to get down and dirty. The IDEA are never ever remotely clinical or analyitcal. Off the charts resolution but the presentation is always of the organic musical whole rather than a forensic detached examination of detail and separate parts.

The other great strength of these speakers is that they are very room firendly and will work in small and medium sized spaces. They are very easy to setup, very compact and will also work extremely well against a wall. Like all Avalon though, they are very high resolution even compared to market offerings in the same price range so they willl ultimately very clearly show you your system and not really add much character or fingerprint of their own. Quality upstream components and a good setup is strongly advised.

Avalon have officially launched the new flagship Tesseract louspeaker.

Technical paper and images here: http://www.kogaudio.com/pdf/Tesseract.pdf

Out of reach for all save a very small number of very wealthy audiophiles but let's hope that the texchnology learnt in this state of the art loudspeaker soon trickles down to new more affordable models.
