I'm a sucker for a lush female vocal. Nothing gets that 'hairs on the back of neck standing up' kind of feeling the way a good female vocal does. I'm finding myself enjoying more modern music these days... Three of my current favorites:
- MJ Cole and Freya Ridings - Waking Up
- Sarah McLachlan and Delirium - Silence
- London Grammar - Non Believer (and also Lord It's a Feeling - Orchestral Version)

Anyone else enjoy a good femal vocal? What're your favorites?

Mostly unfamiliar to me. I really liked these....

Black Orchid - Malia
Colfax - The Delines (Amy Boone)
Not Your Muse - Celeste

A couple more singers I really like - Inara George (Daughter of Lowell George) half of "The Bird and the Bee", and Kandace Springs

I like a lot of bands with female vocalists, but I'm not at all into the typical breathy audiophile ladies.

But in answer to to the question, the 3 channel vocals on Poppies by Patti Smith Group never fails. Great track.

Lisa Gerrard.
An obscure one I’ve recently got into in a big way.
“She has a dramatic contralto voice and has a vocal range of three octaves.”
Here is an example, where she comes in at 1:00.

This is from her latest album which is getting played a lot in my house.

Lisa Gerrard is a new name to me - impressive musical history. Checked out a few of her tracks.

I had to look up idioglossia - that's new word for me!

Think ”Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Dead Can Dance” and you’re half way there.

The 'lush' requirement rules out some favourites, so...

Melody Gardot
the Webb Sisters
Sabdy Denny (should go without saying)
Eva Cassidy
Ella Fitzgerald

Wow - of this lot, I've only heard Lisa Gerrard and Alison Krauss (both of whom I love!). Lots of new music to explore...

Thanks and keep them coming!
