Hi All,
If you are looking for some good quality ex-equipment mains blocks eg x6 way or x10 way etc
Can I suggest you search on eBay for "Server PDU" or "Rack PDU"
Most of the guys stripping server racks see these almost of no value so prices can be quite low. (£10-25 BIN) and PDU seems to be the key word (Power Distribution Unit)
I have just bought a metal cased 10way for £10 plus postage.
Here are a few examples
261315990033
261250449511
190872664600
390693158600
131017921690
If you choose the type fitted with either the 26A or 32A commando plug, you may find the cable is too large to fit into a standard 13A UK plug. So you could either impress your friends and fit a wall mount Commando socket directly wired back to your consumer unit, or as I did replace the cable with something thinner. Inside my block the cable was terminated with crimped spades which connected on to the first socket in the chain. I decided solder my replacement cable directly onto the first socket.
If you have high current equipment it maybe better to plug those into the end nearest the cable entry.
Some of the more exotic HiFi blocks are star wired rather than daisy chained, but if they are good enough for a server room, then they are good enough for me.
Regards
Alan
