This little known speaker company has had a lot of love from the people who've heard them. They are exceptionally clear and revealing, without any of the annoying treble peaks that some designers resort to for that 'revealing' sound. The CM-2 are a modest sized stand-mount with a 6.5 mid-woofer. Both drivers are of exceptionally high quality and the cabinet is superbly made from birch ply.

I bought them from Turn it Up! just recently for the purposes of an experiment (I needed smallish speakers). I didn't meant to keep them longer than a week or two but I had a few surprises with them. First, they sound great with a modest EL34 based valve amp. Second, they also sound great with an even more modest Class D Ice powered amp. Third, a sub really opens them up. If I had more time and space I'd spend some time optimising the match with a sub, but in fact it was surprisingly easy to get decent results quickly. They are a sealed box, and start to roll off pretty high, so they are really ideal for matching with a sub. I'd recommend this usage.

Price is a ridiculous £350. Even more ridiculously this includes a pair of Something Solid stands (though truth be told, I think these are too short at 40cm). I'm only selling them this cheap as a Wam special, because Turn it Up made me promise to sell them on for the crazy bargain he sold them to me for.

Collection only (no exceptions) from SE London. I need to sell these before the end of next week, so please act quickly if you're interested.

An absolutely bonkers bargain. These are great speakers and the stands alone would cost you £220+ I thought they were excellent, best passive stand-mounts I’ve owned. Only sold them as I’ve moved to actives.

The designer was John Choong a master of several disciplines including making XTC counter weights one of which he made specifically for my Hadcock 242 silver arm fitted with a Cartridgeman Musicmaster cartridge fitted with an it's fitted Isolator making a deep cartridge. specifics were calculated with an algorithm to bring the centre of gravity near to the stylus tip it lifted the Hadcock into another league.
I visited Mr Choong's home address in 2013 to pick up the counter weight. He has designed several speakers, I heard a pair of his speakers driven by an exotic Japanese SS pre and power amp I was very impressed.
Something I wrote in February I don't know what speakers I heard but they were good.

Just to clarify, the audio designer for MC was Phil Marshall, who had a lot of experience previously with NAD and other companies. John Choong was the industrial designer, and they are indeed fine looking. But it was Marshall who set the blueprint of the sound, which was his attempt to emulate ESL63s with dynamic speakers.

I heard the CM3 some years ago in Walrus, but it was before I owned ESL63s, so it's not easy to evaluate how far he achieved his ambition. But with my experience of the CM2 and the memory of the CM3 I would say that he got the seamless quality across the midrange and presence region, but nothing really comes close to a Quad for the combination of richness and clarity.

It was interesting when Walrus had the MC speakers alongside the Stirling LS3/6 and the Graham LS5/9. I won't start writing a comparison from the memory of years ago, or it would turn into an essay, but it was a rich choice of approaches.
