Have loved the sound of Mcintosh gear but never owned any due to the cost...can imagine those costs going up considerably now, and probably the quality going down.

This Highlander firm also owns Sonus Faber, Sumiko

Speaking on the announcement, Jeff L. Hull, Highlander Partners president and CEO commented: "We have been evolving our investment strategy around consumer-focused brands and luxury goods over several years. The opportunity to acquire brands as strong as those within the McIntosh Group does not come often and we are very excited to be part of the Company's next chapter. We believe there is a unique opportunity to acquire other consumer luxury technology brands and intend to stay active in the category."

Jeff Poggi and Charles Randall, co-CEOs of the McIntosh Group also stated: "We are thrilled to continue to pursue our growth trajectory alongside the Highlander team. Across all brands and product categories we continue to see remarkable results and an excess of opportunity; we believe Highlander's financial approach and operational expertise can help seize these prospects."

Further comment was provided by Ben Slater, partner at Highlander, who added: "McIntosh Group sits at the intersection of several strong trends that we are eager to be a part of. The residential environment is rapidly evolving, with technology becoming an integral component throughout the home. Moreover, consumers across the demographic spectrum are demanding high fidelity audio now more than ever, and premium brands such as McIntosh and Sonus Faber are increasingly viewed as functional pieces of art."

"Functional pieces of art" & "growth technologies" . Good to know that they are in safe hands. Am guessing sound quality will be of the utmost importance with McIntosh growing forward. ;)

My guess is that they'll either dump the Vu meters and replace them with something "innovative", or offer them as a option with extra cost.......

Can't think of a brand in audio I'm less interested in. "Luxury goods" and "luxury technology brand" from that press release sounds about right. Status symbols. Oh yeah, and I find their stuff absolutely hideous.

I had an integrated amp once - bought over the telephone from a dealer ad in a magazine before I was on-line. I traded my Audiolab 800A, and the courier bought the new (to me) amp and collected my old one. I was very happy with it the time I spent with it but had to downsize the lot a couple of years later. Although to be honest as far as my auditory memory serves me, which is probably not very well, it was no better than my current Perreaux integrated, but I didn't have to go out and get a custom piece of glass cut to accommodate my current amp (It didn't occur to me at the time that the Mac might be bigger and not fit on my rack!) I always check dimensions now - and try to avoid oversize items!
As far as the meters went - they actually done my head in a bit as one always seemed to move more than the other - put me off VU meters for a while.

Spoken like a true bunch of venture capitalists.
