Following on from Music sounds better in Europe I thought about this one and how I am having breakfast in the garden with the french windows wide open and listening to my Quads out there . Sounds wonderful and the sun and eating Al Fresco seems to make everything sound better .

I also find this when listening to my Kann when on holiday the music sounds brighter and airier and makes me smile more as I am walking along or lying on the beach . Head in a better place , mood uplifted so music sounds better .

We often listen to our system from outside while we eat on the patio in the sunshine , with a whole wall of bi-folding doors open
It’s a huge space for the music to come out of .. we love it ..mainly we tend to drink more wine in the sunshine

The vast majority of musical enjoyment is attributed to state of mind.
If relaxed and feeling happy then it gets more attention with a pleasant atmosphere.
I never listen to the system if not in a good place and it certainly won’t please me having to break through a barrier.
Just like participating in a hobby where you have to be in the zone like “artistic painting etc “ (y)

Andrew couldn’t agree more. I hate the cold and it’s freezing here in the UK. Today just now there is a small amount of sun. I am affected by the cold, am much happier when warm, and everything is better when a person is happy. Everyone is affected by mood. If unhappy music can bring you back to a happy place. But I prefer to have the basics in place and being in a sunny (but not hot) climate is very healthy.

I don't listen to the system when on the patio. Don't think it would go down too well with the neighbours. Do a lot of listening in the garden through my Grado headphones and Chord Mojo. Sounds better with the sun out with a cold one. Do very little headphone listening in the house.

I'm sat on a balcony in The Algarve overlooking Carvoeiro and the sea and I have a bottle of Superbock in my left hand while my right index finger types this post on my iPad.

The sun has now popped out and "God Only Knows" is playing on the apartment's soundbar. All in all, this is good stuff. Now a bit of Capercaillie is playing and it also sounds good. Before we came away, I managed to put around 15,000 tracks onto the micro-SD in my phone and I'm using random play to act as DJ. Great fun. The other three have gone swimming in the cold pool, but I know better! :)

Now it's Edison Lighthouse. Better not scare the other holidaymakers by singing along, however.

Lack of room reflections?
Well the Quads are open baffle (the panels put out as much energy to the rear) so open the french doors and find your seating position and away you go. With the Kans this is not the case but as the speakers are firing into the room and you are getting reflected sound out in the garden this is probably a major advantage in taking the edge off them :ROFLMAO:

Being a grumpy old sod may have something to do with it - but sitting indoors listening to music whilst it is blowing a gale and pouring with rain outside is the most enjoyable for me. In this situation you can relax and not feel guilty at the jobs you might need to be doing if the weather was fine.

I think that you need a Sagres though instead of the Superbock to enhance your experience though! Almost as contentious as which cable. 😜

Superbock is slowly pushing Sagres out of restaurants and bars. Shame, really.
Shame because it is worse. Subjective opinion of course!! Anyway hope that you are enjoying Portugal. I have just moved from there and missing it like crazy and it’s only been a few days.

You're not kidding. I spend a lot of time cycling for fitness, and I never leave home without that little speaker on the handlebars.

I feel very sad for you and your situation.

Everything turned upside down and neither easy nor quick to deal with.

I found it hard in my mid-30s. Bound to be even harder over thirty years on.

I really appreciate your thoughts. Don’t feel sad. It’s not so bad. The cold has got to me a bit. Have put the heating on again tonight; ridiculous in June.

But everything else will be fine. Just need to adjust back to the UK. And so shall be doing a lot of trips back to Portugal. Funnily enough you may have heard that it’s been torrential rain in Lisbon but also very hot.

Edited to say that by my maths it’s just twenty years on; I am only mid fifties!!

Oops.

A wee nipper, although it might not feel that way.

This year I have, for the first time in 9 years, been missing the intense blue skies and amazing light of Lisbon. A lot.
Spring is beautiful here, though, and that almost makes up for the cold weather and that bleak-grey, overcast thing above our heads... It's something to look forward to during the horrid winter time. Music helps too.
