This is a Musical Fidelity A5 DAB/FM Tuner which I’ve owned from new, originally purchased from Shadow Audio (now Jordan Acoustics) in 2007. Complete with fully working remote control, manual, original packaging, telescopic aerial, and in excellent condition. It had very light use for a few years before I switched to internet radio through my Auralic streamer.
It‘s a superb tuner for both FM and DAB, with memory programmable pre-selects and easy tuning. It has a valve output section which provides a very smooth, organic sound. The internal dac is 24 bit Delta-Sigma with dual differential 8x upsampling at 192 KHz. It has RCA coaxial and optical digital outputs which can by-pass the internal dac, otherwise conventional RCA phono interconnects direct to amplifier using the on-board dac.
The tri-band telescopic aerial covers FM and DAB reception (and also Long wave I think) and works very well, although I used it with an external aerial mounted in my attic which provided excellent reception. The display provides a range of information and permutations.
It‘s built like a tank - excellent build-quality as with the A5 series - hefty aluminium fascia, robust controls, lovely casework. The remote control works perfectly and can be used with other MF products. It weighs nearly 11kg, 15kg when packed. I think this would stand up against any tuner under £2k, it knocked spots off a Primare tuner I had before it.
These were £1,500 new; I’m looking for £375 plus carriage.
