I thought the Philips system was powerful and had bass weight but not the most resolute. Still.. was impressive for the size of speakers. As per who?.. I got no clue

Didn't get to hear it, but it was described by a few as 'good fun' so a perfect show entry then.

And I checked out a few editions of the HifiYearbook but haven’t found a price yet. I think Mark’s were the RH544, and doubtless he will let us know.

Mark explained to me they were reviewed by Tim Jarman, the vintage expert, in Hifi News. I think it was the November 2016 edition, if my googling was correct.

Here are the relevant two pages from the Yearbook of 1978…

I’ll tip Mark the wink that he’s being discussed and point him here, but i can confirm they were the RH544s.

He also has a pair of the big RH545s and both Tim Jarman and I are very jealous of them!

Thanks, Adam. That’s why I tagged him in post 5, and as he’d replied on a show thread earlier I thought he’d probably return.

Could you tell Mark I remembered the speakers I talked to him about, they were the DSS930s (and DSC950 digital controller). I think they had a digital motional feedback that is discussed in this paper:

I thoroughly enjoyed hearing this setup - I have often wondered, looking back, how I accepted cassette as a primary source back in the eighties, but this system set me straight - enjoyable is absolutely the word - at no point were you made aware of its limitations. I only wish I'd brought some of my old tapes along - maybe next time?

I remember being at one of the big London Hi-Fi shows back in 1973/74, where IMF were demonstrating their speaker range using one of the high end Nakamichi cassette decks as their source. (I bought a pair of ALS40s soon afterwards, so they must have sounded good).

Hi. I don't but I will try to find information for you. I used to have a contact from the Netherlands so will see if he is still there.
Hi, thanks, but don't worry. We just were wondering, if you had some handy from the interesting back garden testing.
Thanks D
