Saw 5th Gear this evenin'. Tiff Needles test drove the new(ish)Alfa 159 (good looking car). Heard Alfa sold a mere 5,000 cars in the UK this year. Fewer cars than Porsche have sold. With their shockingly poorcustomer servicedon't think they deserve to sell any more than that...

Has nobody else noticed that the styling is completely ripped off from a TVR Tuscan with a hint of Hyundai Coupe?

It first appeared as a concept car... But honestly, as much as I hate Alfa, I still reckon they make damn fine looking cars. That's just about it.

TVR and Alfa both have poor reliability and build as a shared trait. I would never ever buy any of their cars - unless I was seriously rich of course...

I had one, from new, for 5 years. Cost me £18,000. Managed to get £3.5k on a p/x...

Within12 months its engine needed rebuilding as the 'big ends' went. By the end of 5 years, gearbox (selespeed) was missing third gear and sometimes had a life of its own. Front suspension brushes needed replacing. Went through a dozen front light bulbs. Air-con 'pipe' needed replacing (waiting almost all summer for that part - so had no air-con one summer as part had to come from Italy). :Upset:

Then I bought a 147... :green:... which was meant to have a better reputation for reliablility. Like feck! :Upset:

Now I drive an Audi...

I've got one. Its about 6 years old now and done 100,000, I've had it for 4 years. Its been trouble free for me apart from the usual maintenance issues; radiator, brakes etc.

As long as you get it serviced regularly, if you can find a specialist all the better the main franchises are pretty much universally loathed, then they are great cars.Try to avoid early sillyspeed models though as they can be a tad (erm) temperamental.

If you're buying 2nd hand then you'll get a lot of car for your money; mine is coming up for replacement and I will definitely be buying another Alfa.

Go on. Get one. With a warranty at least. You know you want to. (but don't blame me if something goes wrong with it.

They certainly are good fun to drive. Nice cabin with good materials, sporty, figure-hugging seats. Even though I spent loads keeping the Alfa on the road, I really loved that car...

But never again for me! I've got more important things to spend my money on.

Let us know how you get on!

Got a company one, its an 03 and just gone past 103K. Just needed servicing and some new bushes, though the clutch is starting to feel abit weaker. The dealers are shocking, the twin-spark drinks oil and its like front tyres (though that might be me).

If you want one, get one. BTW, the diesels are great.

I have read a few comments about how front tyres dont seem to last very long. How often have you had to replace them?

Depends how and where you drive it I think. I think mine last about about 40000 miles, no idea whether thats good or bad.

Alfas are cheap to buy (2nd hand) but do need a certain amount of TLC

Yeah, oil and front tyres. In that order. Rear tyres will last forever but fronts, well, that's another story...
