Wondered if anyone has recently been given a delivery date for new kit that’s months into the future?
I recently had an auto power saving issue on one of my Hedd actives. After returning to Bax Music, they offered me a choice of a repair or new unit - the latter having an expected delivery date of December 22!
I opted for the repair and it’s now back and sounding fine. I actually think that the ‘repair’ was a simple firmware update using a downloadable file and now think that I could easily have fixed it myself - but hey ho, no problem.
Was slightly staggered by the delivery time for a new unit. Just looked online and the type 05s are virtually unobtanium in the UK at the moment (they’re a German company).
Edit - response from Bax was quite good, with helpful service staff (think they’re based in Holland) - the replacement issue appears to lie elsewhere in the chain.

Afraid so. There is a worldwide shortage of chips, not helped by the ban on Russian goods (try getting certain Russian valves). I saw a nice product and asked for a review item and was promised I would get one as soon as they were available. One year later it appeared and it was a great item. They were waiting for a DAC chip. A fire at a major computer chip factory added to the shortage and I know of a certain CD Player (£15K) that you can't buy until the end of this year/early 2023. Apparently, a few auto companies have gone to the remaining computer chip factories and agreed to buy all their stock. Guaranteed. No worries about supplying the odd 100 here or there.

Auto factories are reducing output because they can't get the chips and Renault has substituted older analogue speedometers for digital in some cars.

Watch the prices go up as well.

I ordered 2 off Gibson Classic 57 Humbuckers, probably 2 months ago. The 57+ arrived just over a week ago, the other 57 is still on order and the suppliers have no idea when it will arrive. EDIT#1 No silicon involved, neither EDIT#2 Anyone would think it's coming on a convoy that is likely to get sunk by U-boats

Lost count of the times I've posted similar comments. It's the 'perfect storm' of COVID, brexit and war. Just about everything in electronics and mechanics is suffering supply issues.

You used to be able to go onto places like the RS website for a component and have a choice of loads. Previously, you'd pick based on price and manufacturer. Now, you pick based on whether it's actually available, and if not, how long you need to wait. For most of my DIY build stuff I'm reworking and tweaking circuits based on what I've got in the parts pile or what's readily available.

For repair stuff and a lot of chip-based things, it's a complete and utter nightmare.

I wonder how much of these supply issues are China based? (Russia is obviously a no no for the foreseeable future and don’t get me started on Brexit 😉). God help us all if ever we completely fall out with China (e.g. an invasion of Taiwan) as the world will (literally) grind to a halt.
Our world is now so interconnected, when someone sneezes 5000 miles away, we all catch a cold (metaphorically, or literally in the case of Covid).

I ordered a Luxman EQ-500 in early April. The distributor said they hoped to have stock in June. I thought that sounded optimistic as I read on a US forum that people had waited the best part of a year for theirs! Sure enough, July approaches.

Fortunately Fanthorpes are awesome and have lent me their demo unit. Sucks for anyone looking to get a demo, but great for me as it sounds flippin' spectacular.

I am waiting for Marantz SACD player since April. Best estimate for delivery is September. (SACD 12SE) in the interim my local dealer Analogue Seduction have lent me their demo unit (wrong Colour for me ) until mine arrives.

Triangle speakers took 2 months to arrive, replacement driver took almost 4 months!
I had given up hope on more than one occasion.

I have tentatively brought a few bits (output transformers and an SMSL DAC) of kit from China recently, and it seems no better or worse than it was a few years ago.

In my day job, industrial applications electronics, its brutal, was looking for an of the shelf standard multi source power supply in RS /Farnell. No stock. Maybe some next year. Still seems to be getting worse, am suggesting to subcontractor for less critical parts look to grey market.....
