Evening
turntable upgrade time
I have the budget for a new planar 2 , but wondered if a used planar 3 for about the same money would be a better choice
i‘m not keen on anything earlier as they seem to be to much money for an 20 ish year old turntable
any thoughts

I have a P3 with Neo power supply, upgraded sub platter and delrin platter that I might let go if your interested? It’s about 3 years old but hasn’t been used for the last year as I upgraded.
It also has the original parts too.

Personal view - second hand Thorens TD150/TD160/Systemdek IIx/Ariston RD80/RD11 with a Rega RB 300 or 250 arm (the old models are single point fixing and you can get a VTA adjuster for not a lot of money from Mickell or Origin live and take the pain out of trying to find the right sized washers to align a cartridge)
All of the above turntables will trounce a P2 or 3 with the same arm and cartridge combination IMO

It does. Slight increase in dynamics and accuracy in presentation. More evident on electronic music. Also the luxury of a push button speed change 👍🏻

I did consider the systemdek but couldn’t bring myself to pay what’s being ask for a 30 yr old turntable

With regards to the NEO, when I had my P6, I bought the Russ Andrews PJB cable (goes between the NEO and deck) and it really does make a difference, the SQ improved in all areas. You get a 60-day money back thingy and I kept mine! Also, an MCRU power supply for the NEO also made a huge improvement to things.
