**** UPDATE***
I have gone for some QA 3020i NEW for £159
------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, First proper post

I have a Rega RP2 & Rega IO , I'm using an old pair of Mission 731's I think they are & looking in the near future to upgrade to something different/better.
At the moment my speakers are in the living room on stands, on the woodburner hearth (black stone)
I'm just testing the water on what people would recommend (I understand its ultimately down to my ears)
I am open to 2nd hand if in good condition aswell
......or do I look at DIY? Bearing in mind DIY to me means 'Do not Involve Yourself'

I have a budget of approx £500

Thanks for any advise

I also know the meet up in Stoke is coming up, not sure if there will be any speakers in my price range on show?

Cheers
Ian

For new within your budget you won't go far wrong with the Q Acoustics 3xxx range, they punch well above their price point and are therefore great vfm. Richer and Audio T carry them so you should be able to get an audition easy enough.

The Concept 20's would be my choice, available for around £229 at the moment. I like Q's speakers, good value and sound.

Yep, Q Acoustics 3030i’s or 3020i’s and you would even get the matching sub under that budget currently if you wanted a bit more bass.

Another QA fan here, because they’re easy to live with. But they are physically quite deep, so check with a tape measure or you might be surprised. I also like KEF, but as you say, they’re typically pricier, and they have another possible snag. They are typically less sensitive/efficient, so won’t make the most of your not very beefy IO amp, unless your room is fairly modest.

Polk Audio is a very popular brand of budget and mid-tier speakers here in the US and they've made quite a winner with their Signature/Signature Elite speakers. If one wants outstanding bass response from a bookshelf speaker, the Signature Elite ES20 (£349) is worth a listen if anyone sells them in your area. Klassik has heard the earlier version of these and Klassik quite liked them. They are quite large for 'bookshelf' speakers though so keep the dimensions in mind if size is of importance. The smaller ES15 might be sufficient, but it's worth a listen to see.

Couldn’t agree more. I bought a pair blind on Lurch’s recommendation and was seriously impressed. I had the 3020i

Thanks for all your replies.
I keep looking at the QA's & nearly pulled the trigger a few times (Both 3030i & 3020i ,Value for money seems incredible) BUT the only thing I'm stumbling on is the Depth of them.
Is this really an issue or should I be looking elsewhere?

Cheers
Ian
