Just got my LP12 with Nima tone arm and goldring 1042 out of storage yesterday.

Setup the arm and tracking force but it will not track a record. Reset VTA, height and tracking force but no joy.

I am now getting readings on my stylus gauge that seem way off. Even with the weight sat at the end of the stub it is saying it is over 2grams.

Wondering if I am missing a step or the cartridge suspension has gone?

Even if the suspension is shot, it won't change the weight being shown by a stylus force guage.

Assuming it's an electronic one, change the battery in it or buy another one. The effective weight should not be fluctuating.

If it's an electronic stylus gauge, hitting the wrong button at the wrong time can reset the '0g' point. They generally come with instructions (albeit in the worst sort of Chinglish) for resetting including a small weight for calibration. As rabski says, buying another one might be the simplest answer but worth checking to see if you can recalibrate it first.

This might not be relevant , but in my Hifi Pig review of a Roksan turntable with Nima arm I couldn't balance a heavy cartridge without adding extra weight to the counterweight.

https://www.hifipig.com/roksan-radius-5-mk2-turntable-nima-tonearm-corus-silver-cartridge/

"I have to confess that with my own Zu / Denon DL-103 cartridge, with its cuboid and massive aluminium body, I wasn’t able to balance the Nima tonearm without a little help from a small weight attached with blue-tac to the top of the Nima arm’s counterweight!"

Looks like it was a combo of the lifter and unipivot cup being too low.

Anyway things seem to be working now.

Is the Ninas bearing in its transit mode?
It wasn't but think the unipivot wasn't engaged somehow. Adjusting the cup height seemed to have worked and put it back in alignment. It is now playing records where as before tracking was all over the show and it appeared like every other groove was a locked one.
