Funny you should say that Duvet, I told the wife there would be other wedding anniversaries, "we''ll see" she said.

Have a good one boys.

An excellent meet last night:D

I didn't take any music with me as I go to Ray's on a regular basis and like to hear lots of new stuff. Papaand Hifinut were already there after I got over from a hard day of graft in Basildon (and getting annoyed with Land Rover).

Papa had bought lots of music - on vinyl and cd, some of which I throughly enjoyed and may be spending some money on in the not too distant future.

Redken turned up about 7 and we had lots more chat, crisps, hot cross buns and good hifi chat.

Ray had done some fiddling with his system, cranking it up and moved his speaker back a little. Normally I think the weak part of ray's system is that it lacks a bit of bass depth and drive but whatever Ray has done it sounded super last night, lots of great bass and plenty of drive. The system was really singing - on vinyl AND cd as well.

It was also very enjoyable going and just listening to music and not swapping gear in and out. I think a few more music only bake-offs should be the order of the day. Very enjoyable. The time flew by and I left about 11:30 having had an excellent evening.

Avery pleasant evening and thanksto all for coming(plenty of booze and pepsi on tap as well)

Re the fiddling,I have moved the speakers back about three inches and theres very little toe-in,I've also put some rdc ? cones under the turntable plinth. Also in a relatively short space of time,I've renewed my arm,new speaker cable and silver jumpers,so one must assume theres someburn in time there.

Had a bit of trouble with the arm(sometimes it stuck)but adjusted the anti-skate with the help of the hi-fi Sound HSF 75test record, tracks all the bias/inner/outer et-al tracks with very little buzzing now and it has'nt stuck since.

I also wound the sound upwhen the neighbours were out recently.I generallyhave the volume at about 9 o/c,which for general listening is about right, for me(depending on recording). However, the first time I had it at 10 o/cthen a couple of days later I had it at 12 o/c,both times for about an hour and half. Thanks to the wammer who did the same(earlier thread)as I must assume this has helped as well.

A big thank you to Emma Royd (Ray) for inviting us over and for his excellent hospitality. Had a most enjoyable chat with the other wammers and certainly liked my time listening to his well-sorted system.

Ray's system is both synergistic and balanced, with bags of grunt and oodles of bass.

Ray's lovely Michell Orbe

DSC_0032.jpg

What was most pleasurable to my ears was how sorted his sources were. The Orbe was excellent, possibly the best i've heard one sound. That OL arm and Lyra cartridge seem to have the correct synergy for this particular deck. Ray's cd player was no slouch either. It's no secret i'm a big fan of Meridian's units and the 206/263 combo did not disappoint - sounding well-rounded, groovy and engaging.

Redken, myself, Hifinut and Griffo in traditional Littlewoods catalogue posture.

A most rare sight - Emma Royd about to play a compact disc!!!!!!!

Once again a most enjoyable bakeoff and further proof that the "music only" format is a winner.

Do think the music only bake offs have a lot going for them - really enjoyed myself last night. Good hifi, good music and good company - all you need. Just proving Wammers rule

Famous last words,f--- me the arm stuck again this morning, after playing a non-cleaned LP,albeit in good nick, put on another LP and it stuck.

Gave the stylus the zero-dust treatment and it cured it,perhaps the new arm/argo combo is susceptible to the smallest amount of crap on the stylus?

Nice MFs and speakers you got there, Emma.

The ProAc Studio 150 is new to me though - I was under the impression the 140 was the range topper.

That is a very nice-looking floorer.

Sound like a good time was had by all. A music bakeoff has more philosophical integrity than a hifi bakeoff, imo! I presume you guys play Sheryl Crow's Tuesday Night Music Club as inaugural music everytime, yes?

ps: griffo, you look more "prosperous" with each new month.

SSM,as far as I'm aware the 150's have been out of production forup toten years, give or take?

You are correct re the 140's,they are top of the currentrange(I think) in this sort of proac price range, about £1400,the 150's were a similair price about £1500 new.

I exchanged my pair of 150'sfor an exposure pre/power and power supply at a local hifi shop,a few years ago. They were 2nd hand .

ProAc sure has an odd way of naming its speaker models.

(I look forward to seeing the range-topping Studio 120 in ten years' time.

)

The 150s nevertheless remain a handsome, svelte pair of d'Appolito speakers.

I know several owners inc myself Studio 100 approx 5 years old, who ownproac's they are superb speakers and suit every type of music out there.

There arn't many that cango loudwith out been harsh or bloated they remain controled punchy the bass available is unbeliveable given box and cone size in the smaller models, the big uns are sommat else 2 mates have the 3.5 model large floorstanders they go nightclubby loud in room superb

.

The vinyl sounded excelentthe worry was breaking the needle but a joy for Royd as he'd get Pappa's as a replacement:upgrade:no such luck:cs:mr Royd.
