Notch another one up for dbPoweramp

I've never run into this before.

Bought a new CD (Sparks' No 1 in Heaven, ok, ok, they were the progenitors of techno, right?).

The PC wouldn't even recognise it as a disc of any kind. Nada. dbPoweramp just sat there saying there wasn't a disc.

Really quite naffed off that in 2013 a CD effectively from the late 70s is probably so copy-protected out the wazoo that it won't rip.

I put it in my Blu-ray player and it played it fine. So it's almost definitely copy protection.

After a bit of digging I find the Defective by Design ripping method (as opposed to the more usual Secure ripping). Pop the CD back in, dbPoweramp sees it, works out what it is, and rips it no problem.

I'm sure this is very old news to some, but I'm most impressed.

And I can listen to Sparks now.

As you were.
