I don't have an LP12 anymore as I switched to streaming. I also think new LP12s are, indeed, grossly overpriced. But it is the over-pricing of the new ones that mean this one is about 50% of the cost of the new equivalent. Whilst I don't agree with the pricing, that would seem to make it reasonable, if you were of a mind to buy a high spec LP12.

I'm still disappointed that no one is yet making an upgraded bearing/platter. I quite like the idea of an LP12 with no Linn parts in it although I guess buying an Aristom RD11 is a cheaper way of doing it

I sold an LP12 with the trampolin thing and the circus plus a hadcock 242 for what it owed me £600. Um, I might have been a tiny bit stoopid... :run: it actually sounded very good. I kept the AT ART1 cartridge though.

For those that still mention RD11s at each and every opportunity I guess it would be deliciouscly ironic if it were possible to build an entire LP12 from third party bits and pieces. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

The deck in the Gumtree ad is also on Pink Fish and is a superbly speccd plug and play deck for a fair price when compared to the Linn retail price. I very much doubt the seller will sell it whole - people will want various parts.

Thats the beauty of LP12s- you can add bits and bobs whenever you want as there is a regular supply of secondhand stuff.

If you listen to one, I am yet to be convinced that the new £18K one with the new arm is any better than a 1980's LP12 with Valhalla and Ittok for £800-ish. My LP12-ness ended when I heard a Townshend Rock Reference (first edition), "slaughter" was an understatement.
