Dilemma is whether to check if my Thorens 150/Mission arm combo is set up correctly (eg including suspension). It's difficult to get the cartridge lined up to a projector, so I suspect the arm board is not right. Also the 33/45 speed change isn't working (on 45) - or go for a modern TT eg Pro-ject 1 Expression, with the speed-box. Are modern TTs and arms that advanced?

Well our very own Audioorigami will probably offer you some advice here.

Analogue kid has just gone back to a Thorens, allbeit with a new Arm etc.. I am sure he can offer some good tips here also.

keep what you have and get upgraded, it's unlikely that a modern deck below 500GBP will be any better, spend money on a tuneup and perhaps a new cart.

currently have the 166mk2, with newly added SME3009, with old hsure e75d cart, also waiting on a phonstage, AFAIC a project expression couldn't hold a candle to it, need to go above £600 new IMHO to better it, if thats yer budget then look around for soemthing Like a NAS spacedek or somesuch

The set up you have all serviced and set up correct would be as good if not better than a lot of the new £500 decks

A decent LP12 for around the £500 to £700 should ? see off your deck

I wasn't looking to spend more than say £250 on a new deck. 150-200 LPs don't really justify anything more, but I do need to get the 45 changer sorted so SWMBO can play her singles!! I mentioned I might get a new deck and one that played singles "will it stack them" was the reply!

I doubt any decent deck will stack singles but if you look in some of the Sunday Newspapers at the back or in the colour mags the old type deck which does stack singles sells for £49.99

I might actually see if I can find an old 'gram for singles!

Hope to hear from Audioorigami and see what he has to say about the Thorens!

Audioorigamin may post later, but lets just say he has a td160 mk2, and it's about as good as most lp12's I have heard, except snappers.
