Sounds like a sensible option- - - Updated - - -

I haven't actually signed up yet, but have pretty much decided. as I want it for Xmas, time is running out however because of the time from ordering and time to delivery. Only concern with a Bake Off is, whilst giving me an indication of what sounds best, its highly unlikely an AV receiver or Monitor Audio RS6's will be used. When its amp upgrade time (Whether is pre/power, dedicated 2 channel amp or valve amp) will the Bake Off be more relevant.

I guess what Im saying is I'm looking for phono stage, arm and cartridge to get me started until I really get going, and something Im not going to lose too much on when it comes to trading in. There again I don't want to get kit which Im going to disappointed in on Xmas day morning!!!

Think I may post a wanted thread
IMV you'd do better to start another thread perhaps, for any planned amp/speaker upgrades, including whether any new kit/direction plans include retaining AV/Surround duties too?

I was in a similar position to you several years back having the full set of MA Silver RS series surround package. In my case with the MA RS8 floor standers as my main stereo pair & until last week I was still using the MA RS LCR with my main stereo Pair of XTZ 99.36 mk.ii floor standers in piano finish as they integrated surprisingly well. I still run the RSFX as my surround speakers.

I have my full on AV system integrated into my main rig, with little in the way of compromise....Although the main focus & setup priorities are 2ch first all the way & I haven't made sacrifices to achieve this. :nup:

Also if you've allowed say up to the same budget for a Technoarm for your Gyro you need to give the Jelco SA 750D 9" arm serious consideration. It is a much better & more widely compatible arm than any of the Rega or Rega clone arms IME. The new Audionote arms are also extremely good, starting at around the same money as a Jelly SA 750 + decent arm lead & Shuggie VTA collar costs all in.

I can point you at some links to useful threads + offer further advice if needed. If you like I can take you through my own Gyro upgrade Journey from running a Technoarm for 5/6 years to my current point. :stereo: I've been using a Gyro S.E. for around 7/8 years now & have always used valve phono stages with various Ortofon/Audio Technica l.om.c. cartridges.

The XTZ speakers I mentioned are much much better than MA GR/GS 20's IMV & I've trialled a set of those in my system for 3/4 weeks prior to trialling & subsequently buying my current speakers.  :rockin:

It's still thawing mate, but thanks ever so for the freezer stock. That'll keep me busy for a while. I didn't save you any money. I just offered an opinion. The deal you made yourself.

Now, use a tenner of that saved money to buy a years worth of wam subs and get an arm wanted ad in the classifieds. The other offer still stands. :^

Definitely keeping the AV set up as that's whats probably used for around 70% of time. I was quite happy with my AVR400 but may upgrade next year. I appreciate there are better sounding speakers than the MA but they 'do look nice in our living room' and have to abide by certain rules if im planning on getting married next July!!

I'm probably going to put a wanted ad and see what comes up for the tone arm, phono stage etc. bearing in mind the money it will save and then let the natural upgrade process take its course over time!
