My turn-table has been out of action for 13 years, as I have no idea what I'm doing I'm in need of alittle guidance from you lovely people. My lad, aged 3, pulled the needle out 13 years ago and I've never been in a position where I could replace it. So, Having looked online, to replace the Adikt cartridge, it would be well over my budget, so here's where I was hoping for some advice.

1. Can i replace the needle in the cartridge, or is that not possible.
2. Can I replace the cartridge for a different cheaper one?
3. If so, which one?
4. Where to get it from?

Ideally, I would've preferred a direct replacement for it. But I think that would be too expensive. Not really sure what I envisaged on spending, But, I could probably stretch to £100, maybe even £150. for a cartridge replacement.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated, As said before, I have no idea about these things. But I would like it to sound as good as possible.

Ouch!

These are replaceable but it’s not cheap unfortunately. £300 is the price because of the type of stylus.

I don’t know the rest of your system but for £150 or less, consider an Audio Technica VM95ML. If you have a reasonable dealer near you that sells these, I’d expect them to fit foc. Also, these too have a replaceable stylus 😊

Just a thought:

It may be wise to get the arm checked. Depending on how the stylus was detached from the cartridge, stress may have been applied to the bearings.

Also, a service, oil change, new belt etc. may be needed.

From your pics we can’t see that the stylus is actually missing. It’s under that little translucent cover/protector, if it exists!

The Linn Adikt has shot up in price - a new cartridge is now £574, and the stylus is £294 in Linn’s current October 2022 price list.

The Adikt is allegedly based on the Goldring 1012gx cartridge, but that’s also above budget.

I would also suggest an Audio Technics VM95 model. They start at around £30 for a spherical stylus version that some say is the best of the lot. (Don’t buy one in a headshell as they’re not compatible with your arm).

Here is the range on AT’s website. https://www.audio-technica.com/en-gb/cartridges/line-series/at-vm95-series
