I'm sourcing components for the Pete Millett Uniamp II with which I want to use KT88. Ive looked at the likes of Edcor & Hammond transformers from the States but wondered if there is any preference for UK based manufacturers.

Any recommendations for a particular brand of UK manufactured PP output transformers?

Cheers Pete, nothing much apart from AN and Sowter in the UK then. I was kind of hoping I might find something a little more sensibly priced or does that usually mean lower quality as far as output transformers go?

Transformers are very much a get what you pay for item. I might have some Lundahls spare if you're interested, model 1663 or 1664, I think. (for a KT88 project, natch, but I'm unlikely to ever finish it!)

Look up Majestic Transformers, VVT, SP Wound Components, BLS Electronics and Canterbury Windings. I've bought mains transformers from Majestic, VVT and BLS and they've all been fine. Output transformers are more difficult of course. I know Majestic have a very good reputation.

I would certainly give John Wood at jwoodaudio dot com a call - he winds transformers and if size and weight are anything to go by his KT88 PP ones are something special. I would suggest phoning rather than emailing

Thanks for your suggestions. So many choices. Just out of interest anyone tried James or Silk transformers?

Going to be trying the Lundahl LL1663 outputs and I've managed to get hold of some Lundahl LL1690 for the inputs.

Don't ignore the US or the far east either.

Hashimoto are a personal favourite and can be often found for surprisingly sensible money and Tango occasionally crop up, but are rarer these days. In the US, Dave Slagle will hand-wind just about anything to your requirements and in line with your circuit design for far less than you'd imagine.

Closer to home, John Wood is worth a shout, but I have no experience so can't comment. Within Europe Lundahl have a hell of a rep, but are not cheap by a long stretch and you may have a long wait.

Sowter will wind custom mains stuff and are incredible in terms of service, however, their output stuff is a little mundane and frankly sonically not up with the best.

Noting the last post, if you've scored some Lundahls, rest at ease. They will be more than good enough.

Good to see that you are sorted but for other readers of this thread I would also recommend Tribute Audio

http://www.tribute-audio.nl/

I have used their excellent step up transformers and am sure they could wind whatever you want.

Pieter Treurniet makes them and is very approachable
