HI

My dvd transport wont read any discs . When i close the drawer it spins the i hear a sort of spinning scraping noise and it then gives up spinning and the tells me it does'nt recognise the disc. Any ideas what the problem could be?

For such a specialist machine you should probably contact the manufacturer direct. Apparently it is built from the ground up as a high end device so the transport may be built in house or a heavily modified OEM job

The actual laser / servo board is from Pioneer and is very unreliable used in this machine....I've had 2 of them and they're a pain! They are no longer supported by the manufacturer.....

DO you know which model of pioneer its from? Ive heard its from a pioneer dvd player before but not sure of the model? Theres someone in the usa selling the lasers which they probably get from the cheap pioneer players

I think it MAY be the same as a pioneer DV535 laser thats also used in other Pioneer models. I had mixed success when I replaced several in my players and never managed to get them working 'reliably' for long periods of time! I gave up in the end and bought a Blu Ray player!

Edit: Just checked my drawer (I have about 4 used lasers) and the Pioneer number is DB-VPU110

Sorry but can't remember about the spindle motor but they never fail anyway as they're brushless. All my issues were with the laser and servo board.

Did you get i kind of whining noise when the disc spins and tries to read it?i just presumed this was coming from a motor but maybe it could just be the laser as you said

Just the same - both players....more of a whistle type noise which I think was due to the laser current being too high. Spent an age adjusting the presets for both dvd and cd and would be fine for a while and then just stop reading one or the other! Could be very erratic showing unknown disc and then be ok for awhile.....I just gave up in the end!

Would say it is more of a whistle when i think about it. Will try and get hold of a laser from an old pioneer machine and try it out. Worth a go i guess.

Just remembered i have an old pioneer dv757 machine maybe this is the same laser also

Theres one for dvd and one for cd on the laser pcb but its very risky and should really be done with reference to a service manual / test disc and 'scope.....I wouldn't recommend it!!!!

I cant seem to find the proceed service manual anywhere. do you think maybe the laser is fine but may just need these adjustments? Could get someone with a scope to look at it for me but guess they would want service manuals

Sorry but I really can't be of any more help as its some years since I had these machines and I would think that the actual cause of faults will vary between units.

Glad i found out the model of the replacement laser though. From memory did these come with the dvd an cd laser adjustments already set to the right settings? Did you use the test cd/scope way of setting these if not
