Project Like Turntable Alternative

I am looking to purchase a S/H turntable as a gift for a recent vinyl convert (33s & 45s). They are currently using a loaned Project Debut SB fitted with an Ortofon OM5E, which is far more capable than any of the budget deck/cartridge combos I used to know. Trouble is the S/H price of these is not that short of the brand new price. Bearing in mind the need to change speeds easily, are there any good alternatives out there available S/H that are as capable as the Project seems to be? Would an old Revolver (very similar looking construction) be an alternative? They seem to go for less than half the price of a Project or Rega (speed change not so easy for a newbie on a Rega), or are there any others to watch out for?

Projects over £100 S/H, Revolvers £50 - £100, or Dual 505 etc' under £50. Any thoughts?

Looks nice but over current budget. I will hold that idea a while!
