Quad 77 Dilemma

Sold a quad 77 on behalf of a friend, it's being returned because after it warms up it makes some rather nasty noises. Refund? Not a problem. Neither myself or my friend are looking to fleece anyone, it's just one of those things.

Thing is... it's now been offered to me at a substantially reduced price, has anyone else had experience of a Quad 77 getting screechy when warm, and if so, what was the cause? Tempted to buy it and mate it up with a player and some speakers for my dear sweet evil old parents, but first I'd like some idea of what could be causing the issue.

Annoyingly, I've also found out today that it was only serviced 6 month ago by a "Quad Specialist"

Quads own service costs are very good, depends how cheap you're getting it I guess to make it worthwhile.

Fifty pounds - but I'm conscious that repairs can get costly, and these usually go on eBay for 150-200

Worth giving Rob at Quad an email to sound him out on costs. His address is on their website. I echo what Shaun said on their costs, very reasonable indeed.

I'm waiting for the chap who bought the amp to mail me a description of the problem, found out from prev owner it was quad who serviced the amp six months ago! I shall give them a shout via email to see what they think.

Quad's basic service price is 46 GBP plus VAT (plus shipping to and fro) for checking the kit, and if anything's found to be out of spec/working improperly it may give a good further rise on the already not insufficient starting price...

Don't despair. When I have in the past contacted Quad, Rob has often taken a few days before replying (often on a Friday pm).
