Just listening to Tony Blackburn on the wireless playing stuff from July 1973 and what leaps out me (once I get past the school days nostalgia vibe) is just how well 'pop' music was produced at that time.

I guess back in the day I didn't appreciate it, but the sounds are so warm and comforting...

Analogue, not compressed to death, made by human beings = warm & comforting.

It is a digital show though. A week or two ago it was an all vinyl show. I usually catch it on iplayer
Didn't know you could get iPlayer up in Rochdale, thought you still used a radiogram. Ok I know thats not true as even my dad who lives near Rochdale has Freesat and he is in his 70', also just bought a new Denon system.

Even so listening to a all vinyl show via iPlayer does sound a slightly contradictory.

I don't think cable has arrived where we are in Littlborough, which area does your old fella live.

You could feel the crackles even on iplayer. I'm not sure if they even use cd's on the radio anymore.

My dad is in Middleton where I was also brought up from 10. Before that Limeside Oldham.

I might have to see if the pervious Pick of the Pops show is still on iPlayer.

Littleborough is certainly one of the nicer bits of the Borough of Rochdale and in fact I suggested to my Mum she might want to pop up to nearby Hollingworth lake this week as the weather is nice.

That's where we live at the Lake. It does get a bit busy, we are currently in Manchester. I think the sun and early start on the pop has got to me.

The pick of the pops is usually available on iplayer for a week. I access it via my Squeeze Touch.

I preferred it in the centre of Littleborough as the smell of chips wasn't as strong and the pubs are better. I needed a bungalow though.

I used to work at Oldham with a few folk off Limeside, happy times. My brother lives at Middleton, Rhodes Area.

Yes even when I went to Hollingworth lake nearly 30 years ago as a spotty underage drinking teenager the pubs weren't great. I do remember we drove to a nice one in the middle of nowhere which was nice though after we got fed up of the pubs at the lake.

Rhodes isn't bad(do you remember the chimney) and there are a few good pubs in Middleton such as the Ring O Bells and Old Boars Head, happy times indeed. I live next to Coalpit Lane in Limeside and one of my favourite memories is going to the fun fair in Daisy Knook, more happy times.

Back to the OP, lots of the 70's stuff is very well recorded but not surprising when you consider this was also the hight of the great studios like Trident, Olympic, Strawberry plus of course Abbey Road.

The chimney at Rhodes was the tallest in the world. I remember a mate of mine a builder showing me a picture of himself and his Dad on the top of the chimney.

The Old Boars head was a good pub. Daisy Nook garden centre, I remember doing a bungee jump there.

Coalpit lane, I used to work very near to there on Bardsley Brew. I believe that the coal mines in that area were linked to the ones in Bradford Manchester, near City's stadium, which is a good way off.
